Flu vaccination question

Yes, an adjuvant. (I think sometimes they use a higher dose instead but the idea's the same: older people's immune systems don't react as strongly so you need something to trigger a more effective response.)
 
You definitely qualify @Junglegirl - hope you can get an appointment at a pharmacy without too much bother.

I must get mine organised!
 
There is report in one of the papers on Twitter that some GP's are having so much trouble getting supplies they have written to Matt Hancock.

Ours were really late last year, well into November. This year pdq over a week ago.
 
From age 50 you qualify for free flu jab. Had mine with the missus at boots. Was lucky i pre booked before they suspended the service. Defo two jabs missus is 64 and got the over 65 jab me being 21 i got the other jab. Hope you can find a chemist that can fit you in.
 
I’m gonna try to get mine this week.

Had my jab this morning. It was for under 65's . The nurse said they weren't allowed to give the over 65 one until people were that age or above. As I'm not quite there yet I got the under 65

Also had my bloods taken and appointment made for Friday afternoon to complete the annual Diabetes check - weight, BP, etc. Looks like they are trying to keep up to date with checkups.

Have you tried the local supermarket pharmacy. My local TESCO will do the flu jab for free and then notify your surgery theat you have had the jab to keep their records straight. Worth a try.

If you are 65 by 31/03/2021 you should have the over 65 one.
 
I’ve called my pharmacy and they are all out of flu jabs until 15th, at which point they will be prioritising over 65s.

I’m happy to wait a while 🙂
 
I missed our local GP surgery over 65 flu jab days because we were away. They are having a catch up session in a couple of weeks, but they’ve put a notice on the village website saying they’re short of stock so get there early. How to create a rugger scrum of pensioners at dawn!
As for the under 65s, they’ve said they didn’t get their proirity order in September because they were let down by the supplier, and are now dependent on the local CCG trying to get them some!

Apologies for late response, I called at Tesco they advised that I would qualify but that they were fully booked until Mid-November.
 
So by way of update, I finally managed to get a NHS flu jab this week, only took hours of phoning round to different places on different days, but got there I the end. Then I read today that there have been deaths associated with it abroad, currently under investigation before the vaccine is pulled .........Grrrrrrrr
 
There are always deaths associated with it, which doesn't actually mean the vaccine caused them. MHRA say last year 10m doses were administered in the UK and 'adverse effects' were reported in 0.004% of them. That was all I found.

SEOUL, South Korea — The South Korean authorities are investigating the mysterious deaths of nine people after they had been vaccinated against seasonal influenza. And though officials said there was no clear link between the deaths and the vaccinations, there was worry that the cases could cause panic at a critical time for vaccination efforts.

The deaths happened over the past week, including five reported on Wednesday. Officials said that two of the deaths might have resulted from anaphylactic shock, a serious allergic reaction, but gave no further details. The other deaths are under investigation, but officials were quick to rule out the vaccines themselves — which they said were all from local drugmakers and not from lots for export — as the main cause.

They also vowed to step up a government flu-vaccination campaign to prevent the country’s health care system from being overloaded with flu patients amid the coronavirus pandemic, as both viruses have similar symptoms of early infection, like fever and cough.

“We have not found a direct connection between these deaths and vaccines, or a relationship between the deaths and adverse effects reported after flu shots,” said Jung Eun-kyeong, commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. “We don’t think that the situation calls for the suspending of the inoculation program.”
 
I've no idea who made the ones our surgery used on us. Whilst I've certainly had things made abroad - the EU mainly and shedloads of blood test strips are made in eg Malaysia, far as I know I haven't ever had anything made in Korea.
