Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am joining the Forum as for many years I have been pre Diabetic and just moved up to be Diabetic Hb1ac of 48. I wanted to share thoughts on managing the Type 2 down to as close to normal as I can get.

Hi there, I am a newbie too and finding this forum so helpful with all the info and tips.

Hi to both of you. Ask any questions you may have and someone will be along to reply shortly I’m sure!
I was diagnosed T2 at the start of this year and it’s been a bumpy ride. But it’s been made smoother by the advice and support available here. Honestly I don’t know how odd have coped without it sometimes.

Hear hear @ColinUK, it's been invaluable to me since I was diagnosed in April. If, 8 months ago, someone had told me I'd have lost this much weight and been so healthy by Christmas I'd have laughed at them. It's only thanks to the support on this forum that I've managed it, otherwise I may have just given up.

Welcome @Portchesterman and @jill-mc 🙂 Are you both on a low carb diet? I found a monitor helpful to find out what foods spiked my blood sugars. I used it before a meal and 2 hours after, and have cut out taters, bread, rice and pasta as I found they were the culprits. Having kept a food diary I no longer have to test as regularly as I can check what I can eat without increasing my sugars.

Good luck both and fire away with any questions you have

I am have been using a monitor last few weeks and keeping food diary. I found I cant eat hardly any carbs now, so have increased my fats and proteins as I dont want to lose any more weight. Last couple of days thought Id cracked it, averaged 6.2 2 hours after eating, but today have had readings 7.4, 7.8 and 9 .8. which surprised me as I have been out hillwalking most of the day! Try for better results tomorrow.

@jill-mc I’d recommend posting your morning levels in the 7 day waking thread.
Its hugely reassuring to see levels for others fluctuating all over the place as it confident that that’s just sometimes what happens. Also by posting every day you get to know the other regulars and that’s also a positive 🙂

It’s in the general message board and is called Group 7 day waking average (or something like that).

Welcome to the forum @Portchesterman and @jill-mc

Glad to have you as part of our friendly and supportive community.

Browse around and ask any questions you have, nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’ 🙂

But you have been out hillwalking - you will have been needing energy so your liver was supplying it - how is that bad?

@jill-mc - have they definitely established that you are Type 2 by doing C-peptide and GAD antibody tests?
Hi there, not as far as I know. I have been reading about this, Type 1.5. But my weight loss is caused by me changing what I am eating. Seem to have settled at 7 stone now I have increased my protein and fats.

Hi there, ok, didnt think along those lines! Had a really good days results today between 5 and 6.3 all day. My best day so far!

Great to hear Jill! Hope your successes continue 🙂

LOL - the body does a lot of things most of us haven't the slightest clue about 'normally' - it's very clever and very very complicated indeed.
