I don't know what's up with me, I was fine last week on holiday but since Sunday afternoon I seem to feel really rubbish and levels are on the increase. Just checked and it's 18.4 😱 and I haven't eaten anything to cause that. I noticed this morning that I have a raised, red area on my arm like an insect bite. I've obviously been scratching at it whilst asleep as it's scabbed over. This could have happened on Sunday whilst gardening so I'm wondering if it's connected - it seems too much of a reaction for a bite though? What do you reckon,it's either that or I'm coming down with something. I feel below par but that's only been since Sunday and the "bite" maybe I'm turning into whatever bit me - I guess that would be a dramatic high blood sugar inducing event!

Sorry to hear this Karen :( Faulty pen? Bad insulin? Turning into a human fly? It does sound as though you may be coming down with something. I usually notice my blood sugars rising long before I get any illness symptoms. I suppose it may be related to the bite - depends what bit you 😱 I'd be ont the way to the docs if it's still looking angry tomorrow.

Hope things start to improve soon! 🙂

Thanks Northy, I did change my humalog cartridge yesterday as levels were high - but they remained high overnight so that would be the Levemir so I doubt its the pen or insulin. I think it's the "human fly" scenario! I do feel quite unwell but whether it is related to the bite or something else I don't know. I will keep a close watch on the area that's red and angry and if it spreads or looks worse I will get some advice - I've had really swollen ankles and feet too. In isolation I wouldn't worry about that but feeling so rough and having high levels makes me wonder what's happening - maybe turning into a bloated human fly - urgh!

Don't joke about this Karen! - could easily be an embedded tick - bloody things. And they aren't the only things prevalent in gardens after rain .....

Can turn into summat nasty too.

Get thee to A&E, SERIOUSLY. And say exactly what is in your mind.

(How do I know this? - form your own conclusions ....)

Thank you for your kind concern, I had a look online and decided it doesn't look like a tick but it was something I had never considered so worth a look. I think it's my throat now - just had a look and there is a dot of white on my tonsil, I feel really rotten so I guess it's probably tonsilitis. Managed to get sugar down before tea but it's climbing again now. Shame I didn't notice the tonsil thing whilst the docs was open - oh well, suppose I will be there tomorrow.

Still feeling totally ill. Ankles like balloons! Don't think that can be linked but it's not helping how I feel! Got my sugar down to 7ish so will go to bed soon but set alarm in case it's rising dangerously over night. Just want morning to come so that I can get sorted.

Hope things are OK overnight Karen, take care {{{Flutterby}}}

Might be worth calling NHS Direct to see what they say.

I'm torn as to whether to call them or not - if my sugar was still high I would as I think they'd be more inclined to give me anti-biotics to start clearing up any infection but with it at a reasonable level they will probably just say someone will call back and keep me awake half the night! You never know what to do really do you? Sometimes they are very good and other times rubbish. Really fed up, but thank you for the hugs.

Have you looked at the NHS symptom checker? Might help give you an idea of what it might be:

I haven't found anything about the swollen ankles - I'm thinking that is just a separate issue. I did the one for signs of infection - I have sore throat and white spots on tonsils - and of course when I answered yes to diabetes and raised blood glucose it said see your healthcare professional asap. If I deteriorate (God forbid) overnight I will ring them but hopefully I can cope until morning. I daresay it's just a case of needing antibiotics but it makes you feel so ill when so high and then the infection on top. I'm just feeling sorry for myself!! At least I got on top of the sugar level and have increased the levemir by one unit to cover myself a bit - wait for the hypo at 3am!! Thanks for listening, it's helped to talk.x

We could do with a holographic doctor like the one in Star Trek couldn't we? 🙂 Hope you can get some sleep 🙂

Hi Karen Really sorry to hear that you are feeling so unwell. I hope that you had a good sleep and that the doctor can work out what is wrong xx

Hope you had some sleep and you are feeling a little better today Karen 🙂

Thanks Amanda and Alan, am off to the docs at 9.50am. Seeing my own GP - I think the girl who answered the phone is the one who is diabetic herself so no questions asked, just booked me in! Slept well and sugar remained stable at 7-9 so pretty good considering. Feel rotten though this morning so glad to get appt. Will let you know later how it goes.xx

Hope you soon feel better.

Karen hope you feel better soon hun xx x hugs

Thank you Steff. As I thought, doc deduced that I have a raised temperature and an inflamed throat so got some antibiotics. They are the ones that make me really hungry so will be putting padlock on fridge and kitchen cupboards!! I feel better now I know it's getting sorted but still feel rotten (if you understand!) Thanks to everyone.xx

Glad to hear you've had it identified and got some treatment Karen - hope it all works quickly! 🙂

At least it didn't happen on your holiday! When I was little I went to Scarborough with my mum (the whole family couldn't afford to go) and I got tonsilitis on the second day. We ended up having to come home early :(
