Just feeling generally fed up I'm denying myself all the things I used to love and sticking to the same meals all the time in order to not have to take much insulin and I just don't know why I'm being like that :( x

Maybe you could try introducing a new thing once a week for the next few weeks.
I think sometimes it is easier to stick with what we know works, than to take a step outside our comfort zone.

You don't need to strictly avoid the things you love. You need to learn how much insulin covers it. There's no need to avoid taking too much insulin, because boring old normal pancreases pour out insulin to cope with treats. It'll come right with time, but you actively need to experiment, and not mind if your BG goes up in the process - you'll know better next time. You need to loosen up a little bit otherwise you will die of boredom (not literally, but you know what I mean). I certainly agree with grovesy's sentiment.

Hi kaylz, grovesy idea is a good one. It can be a struggle some days. Try not to let things get you down though. X

Hi kaylz, I know how you feel, but mikeyB is right,
I would normally take 4-5 units of my bolus with my evening meal but last night I was ordered to take more by my daughter as she wanted me to have a piece of birthday cake , so I took 7 units which was quite a big change for me, at bed time my bg was 10.6. Not to good but I didn't bit myself up , next time I will try 8 units.

The cake was gorgeous though. First piece in 12 months.

I know it's ridiculous what I'm doing, I want a kit kat chunky or a little bit of brownie with cream or something for pud but I won't do it and it's just making me feel miserable :( x

I usually have 3 for brekkie, 3 for lunch and 3 for tea, most I've taken in one go was I think 7 and that was for Christmas and New Year, I know I can have what I want and I should but the feeling is hard to describe, I'm glad you enjoyed the cake 🙂 x

Having diabetes does not mean denying yourself any food types. Just forget your obsession with food you think you can not eat, eat as you normally would whilst injecting as you need to. The more obsessed you become the more you will resent the condition.

You need to talk to a HCP who can help you overcome your problems because if you don't it will just eat into you and destroy you.

I know I haven't had more than 40g carbs in one meal at a time in weeks, I don't know why I feel like this I don't know if it's due to a lecture I got from a fellow type 1 or not but it really is starting to get to me x

I hope it was not someone on here.

Kay, you will find some people that are adamant eating very little or no carbs is the way to go these people are almost as bad as JW's in their beliefs.
You are an individual as in the one and only Kay so what suits you and your way of life is what you need, not what some zealot has told you that you need.
So be brave and be Kay again. 🙂

I so just want to go ahead and have that kit kat chunky peanut butter with my linch tomorrow but it's 22.8g carbs itself :( x

So what if it's 22.8 carbs inject for it and enjoy it. 🙂 You are very lucky you can do this even though I am type 1 I can't as I'm coeliac as well. So Enjoy and share it virtually with me as well 🙂

Yeah I know but it's finding something else that I can have with it that's lower carb is my main problem I enjoy my sandwiches for my lunch usually but I don't think that would be a great idea, sorry to hear you are coeliac as well but from what I've seen on supermarket websites there are much more products available now than there used to be x

Go for it! It sounds like you really want to and after eating it, you may not want one for ages. You are doing so well, you deserve treats and your diet has to be sustainable.

I used to eat them all the time before diagnosis but I bought 3 at the end of November after being diagnosed and I've still one left that's how much I deny myself haha x

Have the kit kat chunky, take the insulin for it and then monitor your BGs. If they go high then have a think about what to do differently next time. You may find you need to bolus earlier than normal or split the bolus. You have to be prepared to accept that they may go a little haywire until you get the hang of it.

I've been where you are now - so worried about my BGs going high and desperately trying to be 'good' (whatever that is). As others have said, your diet has to be sustainable - otherwise the condition is a lot harder to accept.

PS - I have a chocolate bar of some kind most days - it is part of my putting on weight regime following two bouts of major surgery 🙂 (I'm not suggesting you do the same :D)

The course DAFNE stands for Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating. That's self explanatory. You don't need to deny yourself anything as long as you know how to inject for it. My weakness is potato cakes. I love them. I've trialled and errored to inject for them and finally got it right.

Using insulin isn't a bad thing. It's a necessary thing to keep us alive. It's hard to get your head round. Some days I still don't get it. But if you want something, allow yourself it 🙂 denying yourself it will make you miserable and crave it more.
