Ok, I am new to all this and in my first week.

I am trying to bring my BG levels, and reduce my carb intakea bit as I need to lose a few Kg as I currently stand at about 111Kg at 175cm, my BG is averaging around 11 at the moment. After the first week I am starting to struggle and want to snack.

Any one out there got any good ideas for snack other than fruit as I don't realy find it satisfing.

Hi Haggis. Can you give us an idea of what you like to eat and what you are eating now.
Their is a food section on here which may give you a few ideas.
I like celery and caramelised onion Hummous
Ryvita's and cheese or that lovely Hummous.

Do you mind not swearing at me with words like celery..........
well I have just pigged out with a good spoonfull of hummous and crackers. any recomendation for crisp like snacks. the wife bought me some walkers sunbites, but when i looked at the nutri info they were worse than a packet of McCoys crisps. I know I have a lot of bad habbits to break.

Pork crackling are low in carb but high in 'bad' fats I'm afraid. Good for an occasional snack when you want something tasty though.

I pick at chilli and coriander prawns and cooked chicken tikka...oh and cheese 🙂

Certain ice lollies and small frozen smoothie bars aren't high in carbs I find.

I'm not sure how this would affect blood sugar levels for someone with type 2, so perhaps someone else can advise, but I find the skinny salt/sweet popcorn individual bags a very useful and surprisingly satisfying snack. Only 10g carbs and it doesn't seem to spike me. I think it's satisfying because it takes a while to eat. It's also only 80 calories which I think is a lot less than a bag of crisps.
I know they are a lot more expensive in the individual bags but they give much better portion control so I am not tempted to carry on eating until I pop! They also sell them sometimes in pound land at £1 for six bags.

are crumpets bad for carbs?
when your BG is around 11, I would think instead of a crumpet, put the eggs on top of fried mushrooms, along with a fried tomato. Or a LCHF veg frittata.
I would cut sugars and starches, till you get your BG under control, It's good you have a meter to check before and after your food.

I have lots of Low carb veg, moderate proteins and fats replace the sugars/starch

low carb high fat, LCHF. frittata is just a fancy word for bubble and squeak
when I reduce sugars and starches, the energy needs to be replaced with a bit more protein and healthy fats.
Here are lots of ideas

If you're going to have popcorn, you may as well pop your own. I used to buy a bag of 'unpopped' corn for my kids, then put a portion in a non stick pan with the minimum of oil, heat it up and watch it pop. ( Don't take the lid off straight way when you're done, as there's always one booby trap that hasn't popped, and does it just as you remove the lid!) Even as an adult, I found it quite fun, and I could just do the amount I needed, so no waste and no eating too much of it.
