Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm going to moving to live in Malawi for a year to do research work. Does anyone know how I can source my insulin out there? I'm about to move onto a new pump with prefilled catridges. Will i be able to get a whole year's supply?

Many thanks in advance!
Any advice or thoughts very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum roamingbexter.
A very exciting prospect! What area of research?
There are a couple of issues.
Firstly, UK GPs can only officially prescribe 3 months of supplies at once. Of course, you might be able to stockpile a bit more in the time before you depart. Remember blood testing strips as well as insulin.
Secondly, your specific insulin cartridges - you need to ask your pump company whether they operate in Malawi. Could be tricky if you have to rely on supply chain through neighbouring countries eg South Africa.
In addition, you'll need health insurance and check ups, which might not be covered, as non emergencies. If you are employed, then employer has responsibilities. If you are a student, your university / students union may have knowledge of how others with long term health conditions have coped in Malawi.

Think the Foreign Office have various health info on their website, don't they?
