Has anyone heard of this? It appears to be a shortening of the tendons/ligaments at the back of the ankle, resulting in a 'tip toe' walking motion.

I am suffering with painful lumps on the back of my ankles, and cannot bend my toes upwards to my shins. It is especially worse in the morning, as I've not been walking whilst asleep! It eases as I walk around during daytime, but is still painful.

Research on the net points to this condition, with (of course) diabetes being mentioned, that diabetics are pre-disposed to this - surprise, surprise:(

Any comments???

Tis a dangerous thing making a diagnoses from reading the net 🙂
Pop along to your GP and ask for advice/diagnoses before doing anything else.
Hope what ever it is, is soon sorted.

I have an appointment on Wednesday morning for something unrelated - however, doc hopefully won't mind if I peel off shoes/socks for a change of subject!

I agree about the dangers of the net research/diagnosis!

I always try and get value for money from my appointments by reeling off a list of ailments! Hope it is something that your doctor can identify and treat easily 🙂

Hi Casper.

Sounds like it could also be tendonitis in the achilles, so don't get too despondant until you have a proper diagnosis. I can get quite sore on the achilles from time to time.

When you see the GP, or possibly the podiatrist, also ask to be checked for plantar fasciitis. The hint is "It is especially worse in the morning".

I hope all goes well with your doctor and you get some answers. It sounds painful, so I hope it clears up soon.

If you get no joy, or if what you think it is, is what it is, then shortenng of the ligaments is a symptom of many problems that diabetics can get - Dupuytren's Contracture for example, where you can feel thinkened ligaments in your palm amd your fingers gradually are unable to straighten. I have been unable to extend one of the ligaments in my inner thigh, which only shows up when I try to do the lotus position.

My fingers were completely cured (well, cured in that within a remarkably short time I ws able to straighten them again, talking days here) after I went back onto porcine insulin.

Anyhow, hope you find out what it is!

Went to docs yesterday, diagnosed as 'achilles tendonopathy'

Got some exercises to do, and ibuprofen gel to put on 3 times a day. Apparently usually runners/athletes get this kind of injury, so no idea why I should get this :( Very painful

Have to go back in 2-3 weeks if no improvement, so could ask about the plantar fasciitas then if need be.

Thanks folks 🙂

Glad you got a diagnosis - hope the exercises and gel do the business for you 🙂 I've been a runner for over 30 years and have never heard/suffered from it, but now I know it exists I'll probably get it next week 😉

Sounds a good plan - treatment, then review etc.
