On now, might be interesting.
Hope the man has s Sucessful operation.......poor man.
Indeed, it weighed 6 stones![]()
I thought about trying the diabetes risk test 😉 They gave a fairly good description of the risks of Type2 from being apple-shaped obese, but failed to mention that not all T2s are obese, giving the impression that you had to be obese to be T2. I know the programme is mainly about fat, but just a sentence or two would increase the public's awareness that it can be caused by other things.
Dear Northerner,
I think they should have said something along the lines that you wrote. However, Obesity does not cause T2, both are a result of a common underlying condition - Metabolic Syndrome (Mets). I watched part of it but found it too distressing!

I watched 2 miutes of it and caught the guy who had the overhang poor man
It's a terrible shame that he was left to live like that for so long until finally getting the treatment he needed through a television show. How can someone be left to live like that when something can be done? Yes, the surgery was very risky, but the poor man must have lived in pure misery for yearsYou could feel how much brighter he was afterwards, even through the television screen 🙂
What did they do with the guy to help ? x
...Just saying that people are fat because they eat too much is all very well, and for the majority it's true: but to leave it at that is oversimplification to the point of inaccuracy. One needs to examine the reasons for over eating. In my case it was simple laziness and greed, and a matter of retraining myself when things went wrong. And I am a naturally managing and strong-willed person, and I still find that very hard. For others the issue is nothing like so clear cut, and if they don't have a will of iron and a determination woven from steel hawsers, they need help. Part of that may be physical (helping them to control their diet, take exercise, and surgery where required), and part of that is psycological. Compassion and understanding goes a long way towards that.
I didn't see the program, but I have seen similar things in the past.
the program was quite interesting - one thing that i wondered - why didnt they give the 40st bloke Byetta rather than a bypass?? i've been told that Byetta helps people loose weight (the DB Nurse keeps saying i should go on it)
One thing that annoyed me was that, yes being over weight isnt a good thing - but they say it all comes down to over eating. Now i eat very little - always have, but i've always been "fat". i rally think i couldnt cut down any more than i have already. although i'm sure this is probably because i still have a carby diet (bread, pasta, potatoes)
The upshot is you feel hungry and are driven to (over)eat. If you resist the tempation, it doesn't solve the problem because you can still have chronically high insulin even if you undereat. Its not about restricting calories and exercising its about correcting a biochemical imbalance, The solution is simple - don't eat food that cause a high insulin (and hence insulin resistance) response.
