Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am Courtnell, male aged 78
Here is my little piece as a newby.
Eleven years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
I have never had any medication prescribed as my numbers are controlled by diet and exercise.
My only concern is the loss of sensation in my feet. There is no pain, just always cold and uncomfortable and it appears to be spreading to the sole of my feet after having started with my toes.
I have heard the condition described as like walking on bubble wrap which is the nearest I can describe my symptoms.
I see no advice as to how to alleviate the condition, probably not possible and my podiatrist says tens machine won't help. Just look after your diabetes she says.

Hi Courtnell and welcome to the group 🙂 you say you manage your diabetes with diet and exercise, what are your blood glucose numbers like?
Have you spoken to the diabetic nurse specialist about your feet?

Hello @courtnell welcome to the forum. CathyB is quite rightly asking if you test your BGLs (Blood Glucose Level)? I take it from your post you do not, now is the time to test. You may find your levels are too high or outside recommended figures, It usually starts with your toes and can progress along the feet and up the legs, eventually. BGL is critical with this condition which is very common among Diabetics but if you have no control of your BGLs you have no datum to start from. Your next step is to find out what your present Blood Sugars are over a few days maybe a week testing several times a day come back to the forum with your figures the times are important. Please do not leave this problem as it can develop and the last thing you need is numb feet that may eventually escalate into problem feet. You have done right in contacting the forum and we look forward to hearing from you, if you need help with obtaining a Glucose Meter & test strips, search the forum lots of info here, take care.
