We went to eat at a Mongolian restaurant on Sunday. If you haven't been to one, you select your (raw) veg and meat on a plate, hand it to the 'chef' who stir fries it all in front of you.

I had 3 bowls of red and green peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato, green beans, pineapple with chicken, pork and beef in the separate bowls. I had them cooked in sesame oil or herb oil, sweet and sour sauce, red wine sauce, and added cashew nuts, coconut and raisins.

They put a bowl of white rice on the table, but I started to put in a small spoonful before I thought better of it and left it out.

Later, when we got home, I tested my bg expecting it to be in double figures but to my amazement it was 6.7 😱 Even better, my morning reading was 6.3 - my lowest yet.

I wonder what it would have been if I had eaten the white rice !

Much higher with the rice, probably, depending on how much you had gone for. The meal sounds wonderful! Haven't seen many Mongolian restaurants around - hope they catch on as they sound very healthy! 🙂

It may have been higher, but the rest was all quite low carb. It sounds delicious, and you enjoyed it.

Mongolian restaurants seem to be very popular in the Midlands for some reason. I went to one in/near Telford once which advertised itself as a Mongolian Restaurant (Live Jazz and Tarot Readings). An odd combination, but it was great fun. I wonder what it would do to my numbers now.

Jazz tarot cards and good food, sounds a great combination. Personally I'd go along for the exprience an worry about the numbers later. It sounds like a brilliant treat.

Kublai Khans by any chance, I went to the Glasgow one for a stag night, it was tremendous...................first stop was the meat, all kinds there was, zebra, wild boar, springbok, fish, chicken, then the veggies and spices, it was like making your own curry......then you pass it to the dude behind the hot plate and watch as your cocktail or weird meats, veggies and hand picked spices are cooked in front of you...............it was really exciting, and you can go up for more, some of the mixtures did get kinda spicy, but that's the fun I suppose..............

They only have places in Edinburgh and Glasgow but I am sure it is very similar to the place you went

Your Mongolian meal sounds yummy :D

Watched a Hairy Bikers show last night (recorded from last week) where they were extolling the virtues of cauliflower. They made a cauli curry which had me dribbling: although I'm a confirmed omnivore, I absolutely love fresh veg - and loads of it! Yet to meet a vegetarian that likes veg, as much as I do

It was called Temujin in Milnsbridge, Huddersfield, West Yorks and I can highly recommend it. There is another one in Sowerby Bridge, between Yorks and Lancs.

Didn't have any Tarot or Jazz though - just darn good food. You can eat as much as you like and have starters and desserts if you want to. I didn't mind not having them though as the main course was sooooo delicious.

Can't beat cooking on the spot from fresh - no food hanging about and no pre-packed/frozen stuff. :D

I remember about 20 years ago a new restaurant opened in Putney called The Mongolian Barbeque and that was the same principle, chose your veg, meat etc.. and then you took it to the chef to be stir fried in front of you. They seemed to pop up all over the place but years later seemed to disappear. I noticed that there is now one in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden.

i went to one once in Oxford ..not far from where you all met in january ...it was Great 🙂
