Watching it on tape. Glad they are not advising me. Advising them to eat cornflakes, porridge with blueberries, lowering their portion of chips and have low fat sausages.
I noticed that too. They are going on all the time about fat and sugar but nothing about carbs. They are suggesting baps, chips, bread as long as the bread is brown. Yes, it is better but would have thought should not be eating it too much though.
I echo what everyone's said - I missed the beginning but was gobsmacked at the 'advice' given out! I might watch it again on iplayer and shout at the telly!

well done Drummer. I am going to do the same. I still cannot believe what I heard. Won't be watching that programme again. Bet Michael Moseley was "doing his nut."
My initial reaction was the same as all here. OK so the couple were off the charts sugar addicts, (and she was an idiot in denial), but anyone newly diagnosed would get totally the wrong message. The researchers and so called dietician should be sacked. No mention at the end of the programme if the couple actually reduced their BG, eating all that potato, bread, pasta etc!! I'd like to think DUK could actually make an official complaint.
I’ve just watched it and although the advice given wasn’t what most people here would do I think the family involved especially the lady wouldn’t have accepted a low carb diet anyway. She wasn’t changing a tin of beans so there’s no way she would have agreed to cutting out potatoes, bread etc.
At the start the lady said she was told that if they lost weight there’s a good chance they could reduce and even stop their medication I think this is the route the tv show went down. Looking at the bigger picture of seeing how awful their diet was of chicken nuggets and chips to changing it to more fruit, veg, vitamins. If your going to eat porridge surely it’s better to have a handful of fruit on it instead of syrup? At least then your getting fibre with it?

The issue I took with this programme was that carbs, specifically starches, were not even mentioned, the implication being that only sugars mattered. Yes, I agree the lady in particular was very resistant, but I still feel the programmers had a responsibility to the general public to give (or at least mention) the whole picture, even if the participants chose not to accept it. I usually like this programme for the tips I have picked up in the past, and surprised myself about how strongly I felt about it.
