Dobutamine Stress Echo (DSE) Test

due next Monday
Not looking forward to it at all
leaflet is pretty scary reading when you get to the side effects...death, stroke, heart attack
so I will only be happy if the one before me is number 500 or 5000 or 10000😎

I know what they will do and would just like to hear from anyone who has had the thing done, along the lines of effects during and after

wont need a stress test by Monday, getting well wound up as it draws closer

Good news D and UC are fine:D

Hi tejbat, I hadn't heard of this test before so looked it up. I do understand your concerns - when I was diagnosed I had an angiogram which I was assured was a very straightforward and frequently performed test, but when I came to read the release form it happened to mention there was a 1 in 200 chance of a serious side-effect - didn't actually sound like great odds to me! So I can understand your trepidation.

I hope that everything goes smoothly, and that they are able to gain lots of good information from the test so that it turns out to be a big plus for you in the long run 🙂

Dse

thanks northerner

glad its Dse and not Bse test :D

had a very nice and informative pm from a forum member who works in `the trade` 😉

soothed my anxiety a lot

soothed my anxiety a lot

Glad your anxiety has been soothed and all goes well for the test 🙂

I hope all goes well. It is natural to worry about anything we have never experienced before, most of us fear the un known It will happen and afterwards you'll wonder why you worried so much. Do come back and give us an update and tell us how you got on.

all done

well, glad that's over and done with

why is nothing ever straightforward with me🙄

got me wheeled into the room, canular in arm no problem, unlike some months ago where the`doc` had five , as in 5, goes to get one that worked when it was in😱

semi reclined, propped up on left side and held on the `lean` by pillows, the technician got to work
seemed to be having a bit of bother getting the view she and the doctor wanted
they changed my position a couple of times, no better, so doctor had a go, then back to technician
The scanner was ok on the chest, quite a bit of pressure was being applied by this stage, or it felt like it:(
on the ribs under the arm it began to feel like they were stuffing me with the end of a broom handle

Give up, "I will get Dr ??????....who assumed control. I got the distinct impression she was the BOSS....nice new suntan....

She also `faffed about for a good 10 minutes, I was checking the watch by now,
As with the other 2 she was rabbitting on about the contrast and other lines along "that's ok, Ive seen worse than this"
not exactly what I wanted to hear, but par for the course for me!!!!!
By this time the rib(s) were getting bloody painful but the good news was the`go faster` stuff was going in
soon felt the effect, heart thudding a bit, then pulsations up the neck and into the head....nothing you don't get after heavy/hard exercise
she kept asking me to exhale fully and hold it, no doubt to see the hearts reaction to being starved oxygen
soon told that's it, test over and you will be back to normal HR in a couple of minutes....correct,
wheres me cup of tea and biccies, why do these bu**ers have a humour transplant:D
meanwhile, the 2 ronnies, sorry, docs, were still in deep conversation over the pics on the screen ie, we should be able to do this...well that ones ok if we can just get the "contrast" changed....
I did ask a couple of times during the early `struggles` what is next if this is another failed test
don't speak at the moment....does that mean SHUT UP.....er, well yes
good job I can take a hint...for 30seconds
anyway, back to recovery unit, coffee and bisskwitz..bourbons...mmmmmm
from going in to coming out of test room took the hour scheduled
as soon as the go faster juice was stopped I was back to normal within a minute, always had fast recover times, years of cycling helped no doubt
kept pestering staff, can I go now, and let go/signed off after about 1/2 and a walk down the corridor and back
wife and self got the bus into town, market day, gave up as usual as having to stop sit down every few minutes and got bus home
all afternoon and evening until early bed at 11 I felt shattered/not so good
don't know if it was result of test or not as it is not uncommon. part of the reason for the test I suppose
Today, all ok generally, bit of a sore central chest, but that's not unusual
and there we have it, a doddle really
only uncomfortable bit was the broom handle effect of the scanner as it was moved over a rib

right, now for the toenail cutter at the `elf centre in an hours time, what can possibly go wrong????????????????????????????????????????????

Thanks for the update - glad there were no major problems (just lots of minor ones, it seems!) and hopefully they will be able to discern what they need to know from the scans.

Good luck with the nail-clipping! 🙂

Hope you've still got all your toes!

Hope you've still got all your toes!

starting again, message disappeared ....

Ah! Well!
might not have when I start cutting my own toenails again😱

attended the clinic and had feet checked and toenails clipped and filed

Then the bombshell 😱

Because the GP`s now run the funding, they are assessing peoples needs

I have been downgraded to `low risk`
That was my last appointment, I should have been told and given a letter the last time, 6 weeks ago

Any future problems with feet/toes, see your GP, who will refer you if necessary
guess they have to keep the purse strings tight for the down payment on the Lambohrgini 😎

Also, may or may not be related

going to the outlaws in Scotland for a week from next Monday
Got my weekly delivery of tablets cassette today...AH!
should have ordered extra one for next week

Ring, Ring,...........L O , can I get a extra cassette `cos blah......
I will try to get you one, I will ring your doc and let you know

Normally, as the cassette LADY does them in batches I can pick extras up straight away or in 24 hours at the most. Even had them delivered within the hour without asking

GP`s seem to be raising there heads for the least little thing, took my full sharps box to chemist for disposal last week and they wouldn`t/couldn`t do it..you have to take it to your GP now

Anyone else beginning to suffer the tentacles of the GP`s new powers ?

Ack! Sounds like they are taking the 'broad brush' approach and being petty-minded about everything then seeing who complains. I had a similar experience a few weeks back when they reduced my test strip allowance from 300 to 100. They soon changed it back when I pointed out all the essential tests I needed, but clearly hadn't considered my individual needs (which would have been fairly apparent, given that I am Type 1 on insulin 🙄)

Hope they apply some common sense and not just try to penny-pinch short-term at the risk of long term harm.

It's more likely to be the Council have changed their sharps disposal procedure and stopped collecting from pharmacies.

And our PCT (and I imagine the new CCG) had a system whereby GPs were not allowed to put over 100 strips at a time on repeat, without justification. If the doc is doing the scrip review it's OK cos they look and see Ah OK she's T1 so she needs em, but if the trained dog does it, they don't have the expertise to look the code up (well they would have, but not the medical knowledge to know who should have more and who shouldn't) - because that's all they have to do.

Same as if it says everyone must have this cheaper brand of medicine X, they'd have to over-ride it where eg you have an allergy to one of the ingredients of that brand. No fuss and no bovver when the people who know what they are doing, do it !

My turn next!

Just back from the Cardiac appointment as the stents have not solved all my problems and the doc has suggested I have a stress echo cardiogram. So appreciated all the information you have given. Just waiting for the date.

Hope the date comes through soon Vic, and that everything goes smoothly for you.

Thanks, Northerner. Not being having a good time of it, since the last stent. So now they want the new test to see how bad my Mitral Valve is. However, the diabetes is doing OK with the Novomix 30 as I am adjusting it, depending on what I am eating and get it right about 70% of the time, so that's good.

At least the consultant adjusted some of my pills today, so should stop feeling dizzy with bouts of low blood pressure, like 90/55!
