Do you ever have a treat?

It’s Ok. The HCB came barrelling in and turned my BG on a sixpence.

I was very naughty many years ago just before Easter. Hubby used to like Cadbury creme eggs so I bought him a pack of 3. He doesn't eat a lot of chocolate.
He was working away and I had a chocolate craving about 10.30pm. No 24 hours shopping back then.:( Soo..... I ate one. Milk chocolate so not enough cocoa so I ate another one. Scooped out the fondant filling first as I find it too sickly and ate the shell.
Feeling a bit sick by now so left the last one alone.
2 days later on Easter Sunday gave hubby his solitary egg. He bought me a lovely big dark chocolate egg. I had a mega attack of the guilties and fessed up to my sins 😱
Hubby said " but you don't really like creme eggs" Desperate times was my only excuse 😳

I had a hot cross bun weeks ago. I absolutely love them, but once I start I can't stop, which is one of the main reasons why I try to keep low carb, because if I don't start it is much easier. Anyway, I like they just as they are no butter or toasting them. Surprised myself by managing to keep in range (mucking out 4 horses probably helped) but gave the other 3 in the pack to my partner to prevent bingeing.
@silver minion I could demolish a whole half dozen box of CCEs (when they came in 6s not the reduced 5s) in an afternoon before diagnosis, yolk and all, and not feel sick. I really was an addict!! I haven't dared have one since diagnosis, because it could so easily set me off again and I don't know that the NHS could afford my sugar habit in insulin! To say nothing of what it would do to my body of course! I stick to a square or two of dark 70% chocolate with some crunchy peanut butter or brazil nuts to make it last longer and be more satisfying.

We had a pre-Easter egg hunt with family yesterday so I treated myself to a small dark chocolate egg, and two "extra sour" jellybeans.

I don't eat any sweet stuff normally so it felt like a massive binge. I think that's my lot now until Christmas.

I was only talking about that with somebody yesterday, I had never had Guiness before but had to have the free drink and it was fab but then had some in a bar still in Dublin but it was not nearly as good. I haven't had any since.

Probably as staff in Gravity Bar know how to pour a perfect pint of Guiness, did you notice they angle glass slightly then pour it in 2 stages, waiting 2mins before second amount is poured.

Of course it's fresh from brewery & being busy it doesn't sit for long in pipes. If you get chance go to Jameson Distillery in Dublin, loved that experience also but do like Jameson whisky.

I have always been a dry white wine drinker, so that’s no problem. I’ll occasionally have a light lager, tenants do a low carb one, As I have tight control, my blood sugar can often run low after exercise or if I drink alcohol. So then I force myself to eat a chocolate.

My treat last night was a rib-eye steak with button mushrooms fried in butter and served with a huge plate of bistro salad dressed in balsamic vinegar and a big dollop of cheese coleslaw. It was delicious and low carb.
Tonight I will be sharing a single portion of fish and chips with my partner. Much carbier, less tasty and to be honest, less of a treat and more of a convenience/habit as we will be coming back from a meeting late and won't have time to eat before we go.

Absolutely treats don’t have to be carbs and sugar. My favourite meal out is starters of prawn and king prawns in a broth, followed by espetada (beef skewers) with salad and then because these are very low carb I can have a desert. And because it’s a good restaurant the helpings are a normal size.

I have a treat everyday, but what is the definition of a treat, me it's something to keep me happy so it can be naughty like a croissant or good like strawberries and greek yogurt, as long as it puts. Smile on my face
