Do you ever have a treat?

Is carbs worse than sugar ?
As far as your body is concerned carbs = sugars. All carbs except fibre are broken down into glucose. As you already have too much glucose in your blood and can't utilise it properly because you have diabetes, too many carbs including sugars make the problem worse.
For carbs think breads, cereal, pasta, rice , potatoes and other starchy veg. Also beer and cider.
I only check the carb amounts in food. If 2 items have the same carb and one is lower in sugar then I will pick that one.

So carb count is better than sugar counting
Please don't fall into the trap of thinking it's all about sugar. It's carbs you need to focus on. Sugar is a carb and so is the starch found in things like rice, pasta, bread and potatoes. It all ends up as glucose once consumed.

I suspect that is where you have been going wrong in only considering sugar, an easy mistake as the advise is often to cut down on sugar whereas it is all carbs that matter.
Something can be low sugar but very high in carbs. Hence why the traffic light system is as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to making good food choices.

The nurse told me yesterday as you are stopping all sugar you might find that you crave it more so give yourself a treat, she said leave it till the evening so you have got something to look forward to and you will find you don't crave it as much.

She said make it a small bit of dark chocolate

Anyone do this?
When I was first diagnosed, I didn't. The reason I ended up as a T2 diabetic is that I had no portion control around carbs. I couldn't have had a treat and it not spiral out of control. I needed to go cold turkey.

After a couple of months, I recognised that, if I was going to eat this way long term, then I did need to eat in a way that was sustainable. I realised very quickly that a couple of months had changed my taste buds so that finally, I can have a little bit of dark chocolate and be satisfied or bake a low carb treat and enjoy it sensibly (to be fair, anything with sweetener in is easy to portion control because my tummy can be sensitive to sweeteners so the effects of overindulgence are not worth it!!)

I just had one and it is the same taste, amazing

The normal one has 0.9g sugar the no alcohol has 3.0g sugar, why?
watch out though - I think that 12 fl oz has about 10 gm of carbohydrate, alcoholic or not. Just from memory - as it isn't the sugar which is important, but the total sugar and starches.

85% dark choccy mmmm my treat
