If you are stuck with Asda, you could try Burgen bread. It's just 12g carb per slice & is only £1 a loaf in Asda.

to be honest I have been getting kingsmill wholemeal no crusts and that is only 7.4g carb per slice it is only a small loaf but it does the job

Wow, that's not bad.🙂

obviously a lot of carbs in crusts :D

I also used to buy Burgen, until I realised it uses white flour not wholemeal, so I avoid it these days.

However, you need to be careful with wholemeal bread, as they still add nasty white flour into the mix to make the bread softer. Best to check.

I agree Lisa ~ I cut the crusts off bread too. I've recently switched from Bergen soya & linseed bread to Warburtons Wholemeal Protein bread 9.3g carbs per slice ~ just for a change ~ although Bergen bread toasted is really nicer than not imo.

On one of your good days could you not batch-cook meals of your choosing?
I spend one day per week making ie chicken stews; Bolognese sauces; cottage pies with mashed cauliflower as a topping then grilled to a crisp etc etc ....all of which are then kept in the freezer til its needed ~ all to do then on the days you don't feel inclined to cook is to defrost the meals & heat. Sure does make life a little easier x

You may be interested to know that by toasting the bread it lowers the glycaemic index and reduces the fat content. Freezing is also said to help in lower the impact.

I don't understand how it can lower the fat?

It burns it away 🙂 well, not by much, and if you put butter on it afterward, then no benefit in that area. Main benefit is lowering the impact on your blood.

Well, you learn something new!

I always thought the caramelisation of the brown bits would increase the GI!

Lots of search results on toast and GI and freezing too on the web.
There was a study done on white bread( not that I would recommend eating white bread)and shown freezing and toasting bread had a lower impact:

"Results:
The different storage and preparation conditions resulted in lower blood glucose IAUC values compared to both types of fresh white bread. In particular, compared to the fresh homemade bread (IAUC 259mmolmin/l), IAUC was significantly lower when the bread was frozen and defrosted (179mmolmin/l, P<0.05), toasted (193mmolmin/l, P<0.01) and toasted following freezing and defrosting (157mmolmin/l, P<0.01). Similarly, compared to the fresh commercial white bread (253mmolmin/l), IAUC was significantly lower when the bread was toasted (183mmolmin/l, P<0.01) and frozen, defrosted and toasted (187mmolmin/l, P<0.01)."
