According to BBC news - she claims her T2 was out of control during the run up to the election - resulting her less than accurate reporting during election interviews and why she stood down from her shadow position.

Hmn.........

Yes, Ive just watched the Skynews press preview and noted that.

First things first, I'm not as experienced re D as all you lot, and, it is easy to have an opinion of a public figure. By definition that also includes Mrs May.

The glare of our putrid media is unrelenting and any weakness is starkly projected to the baying populace instantly.

Having said that, it does all seem rather convenient and to be honest I have to wonder how many hundreds of thousands of Ds go to work every day, do not get the space or recognition they should, struggle on and somehow or other get through the long irritating days as best they can.

I have D, and find it difficult focusing, realising that simple things are not so bloody simple, struggle to convey that it's not lack of zest, it's reaching into an empty "energy cupboard" .

I think, that on a personal level, it would be humane to remove ANYONE with D from high pressure environments, regardless of position, that includes high ranking Govt people. NOTHING is worth ones health, nor, should that risk be manipulated to gloss over shoddy performances.

I fear that Diane Abbott has latched onto a convenient way out.
I really would rather be wrong about that, either way, I hope she is back to her old self soon. I also hope the person inside Mrs May is soon given space to water the roses, watch telly or wander round in the sunshine.

That article is humbling.
It is humbling though (if D related) she should have recognized that there were problems occurring & to step back, take measure & correct the problem. If using D as an excuse for poor performance then that's reprehensible.

Diane Abbott has long been vilified, as a black woman Labour MP. Everyone who has diabetes knows the condition takes more work to control in stressful situations. I'd struggle to manage 6 radio interviews during a political campaign. I hope she has learned from her experience and that she is enjoying a period of healthier diet, exercise, relaxation and taking medication correctly (assuming she takes medication).

I'd recommend reading this article by food writer Jack Monroe about Diane. It does contain some explicit language though, so don't read if offended by that sort of thing. It gives a different perspective on someone repeatedly and widely vilified.

I was just going to look for this article to share, upsets me how she has been demonised and verbally attacked. She is a remarkable inspiring woman. Thanks for sharing.

Got as far as some of the comments. People are really horrible.

Good for you to share Alan. Thanks

The deeper you delve into this sort of thing the worse it becomes.

The media feeds some very disturbed minds.

I am not a fan of the public Diane Abbott as I find her manner comes over as rather condescending and patronising, plus her questionable activities such as sending her child to public school.

Having said that, a friend of ours was greatly helped by Diane when she was a local MP, so I'm sure she is better working in her constituency. I too hope she has learned from her experience, and is looking after herself properly. Actually we were seriously wondering if (what with the forgetfulness and vague behaviour) she was showing early signs of dementia, as she is in her 60s now. Happily that is evidently not the case.

As one diabetic who has suffered intense personal stress, Martin, actually - though not being fond of Diane at all (by which I don't mean she's ever done anything to make me feel any way about her, she's merely never affected me one way or the other really - so I really do have no opinion of her other than the fact she cocked up publicly very recently - nobody could fail to know that) - I wouldn't be at all surprised if she wasn't telling the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

MY diabetes was absolutely unmanageable when I was under extra stress - which stressed me out even more BECAUSE my BG was uncontrollable by me - and I could NOT get any help from the NHS for myself. No hospital appointments for over 2 years and a GP who couldn't undertand why ranging from LO to HI a few times every day, was a problem that seemed to be worrying me ???? I WAS suicidal - but scared I'd probably **** it up the same as I seemed to **** everything else I touched up at the time - and just cause even MORE trouble for my husband having to sort it out. Then I'd sort of shake myself and tell myself I was being stupid and not try it. The cure seemed to be to eliminate the stress - so that's what I had to do - and walk before I was sacked. And - packed in the statins that were causing the memory probs which added to the reasons I was doing stuff wrong and being criticised for.

We can all only learn to cope with a certain amount of stress. Add a bit more and WHAM.

She couldn't eliminate the stress, could she? Neither did she have the time to eg take a while off sick and go and seek medical help - privately or NHS under the circs and it still wouldn't correct what she'd done on the radio. So - she took the only option that was sensible and walked before worse happened.

I have never been a fan of Abbott, but I have never considered her stupid, quite the opposite. That said, knowing what can happen if your sugars are not controlled, leads me to believe that it could very well be the cause of her looking stupid recently.

I hope she gets better so that I can get back to slagging her off:D

Just reading some of the vile comments which Diane Abbott and others in the public eye have to endure daily. It's a sad and worrying fact that these hate filled misogynistic racists are allowed to vote and sit on juries. They walk amongst us and sadly contaminate every decent thing they touch...but of course only from the safety of their keyboards. Oh hell, their hate has no real face that dares to be seen and accountable! 😡

Not wishing to make any personal comments about Diane Abbott (I think being an MP is a challenging role for anyone, especially at cabinet level), but I was more concerned about her comments around being 'hypo' and not taking 'her glucose tablets'. This, surely, is more relevant to T1, not T2? I know some T2s can go hypoglycaemic when not eating well, depending on their medication, but I have not heard any T2s regularly taking glucose tablets, nor have I read this as being recommended treatment for T2. In common with many, I am trying to follow a low carb diet (and low GI carbs at that), and also undertake some intermittent light fasting along the lines of 5:2 and the Michael Mosley Blood Sugar diet. I have not yet had any hypo episodes or any cognitive issues as a result......thoughts?

I certainly had hypos whilst on Glicazide, and took Glucose tablets and my levels did not always come up that quickly either. I sat for nearly half an hour once in my Chiropractor's car park before I was up enough to legally drive the short drive home.
