Diagnosed today!
Welcome to the club nobody ever wanted to join!

Can you tell us a little about how you came to be diagnosed and any questions etc you’ve got flying around in your head right now?
I’m sure we’ll be able to shine some light on things which may seem unclear right now.

Hiya, i have been having health issues for sometimes now, then test were done, boom!!! My issue i think will be what to eat in my house hold two kids will be 10 and 7 in the summer and a husband. I don't know really as l got the call this morning so my mind has not accepted it yet, but getting there.

So - what's the plan from here on, inty? Is it Type 2, and does diabetes run in the family or did you maybe have gestational diabetes with either of your children?

Types 2, runs in the family, am alone in the UK while my siblings are all in the north USA/ CA. I have no experience. I have to go pick metformin l think that the spelling and l will see from there. My parents are all deceased so nobody to ask .

The good news is you’ve now found out so can act to improve things. If you can find out what your figures were (the results of your blood test that diagnosed you with Type 2) then that would be good as it would show you where you’re starting from and help in the choice of what diet to follow.

In the meantime, if you can jot down your normal diet before diagnosis, then that would be helpful too because then you can more easily identify places where you can make adjustments.

Thank you, am having a phone call Thursday so l will ask, the go did mention something like 99. As these is new to me l did not have a clue. Thanks for tell me. At least l will ask the questions now.

my food was consisting of pasta and lot of wheat stuff, white rice and Indian cuisine. All I did was watch my calories although l must admit when the food was fine l will watch my calories. I have been putting honey in my salad is that not good?

99 would be a possible number for your HbA1C. That would certainly fit but just check when you have your phone call.

Most Type 2s need to watch the amount of carbs they eat. That’s all carbs not just sugar. So bread, pasta, rice, fruit, etc etc. If you’re overweight then losing weight can help. Exercise helps too - even walking.

I’d swap your honey for another dressing. Every little change helps.

I exercise 4-5 day for 30 minutes, l have started to include walks, l need to include this in my routine although am in Scotland and the weather is not so great right now. Thank you every bit of info helps.
So what HbAc1. I have seen a lot of jargon reading around. Is there a file l can find these words?

Welcome to the forum @inty

Hope you get lots of answers to your questions with your phone call on Thursday. It might be a good idea to jot down any questions that pop into your head in a notebook, as it can be very easy to forget what you meant to ask when the conversation starts!

Ask away with questions here too! We have literally centuries of lived diabetes experience on the forum and not questions will be thought too obvious or ‘silly’ 🙂

Thanks, do you know what l should ask , l have no clue honestly.

Well... anything you’d like to know I guess!

You might get some inspiration from this ‘top tips’ thread?
