Relationship to Diabetes

Hi all,

T2D as of last week. 5 days in and still not sure if I should be worried or not. A lot to take in especially as my readings were off the charts. More tests in the pipeline.

Off work for now while i get used to things.

Hi Dave welcome , it can take a while to get over the shock, but with the right help, support and effort diabetes is perfectly manageable!
How did you come to be diagnosed.
Have you been given a meter so you can test you BG (blood glucose) levels yourself.
I don't know what advise if any, you have been given about eating .
you might be supprised about what is a healthy diet for us T2s, for the time being cutting down/out on the starchy carbs such as , potatoes, bread, pasta and rice avoid fruit juice, tropical fruit has loads of sugar as do grapes .
Others will be along with lots of advise, tips and reading suggestions

Feel free to ask to ask questions we will do our best to help.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum.

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis - how did it come about? Do you have family history, and had you had symptoms for long?

The good news is that, although clearly very serious, diabetes is something that can be managed well and doesn't have to impact adversely on your health and well-being if you have the right knowledge and are prepared to put in a bit of leg work 🙂 Many people actually find that the adaptations they make in order to get their levels under control lead to them feeling much better than they have for quite some time, so although it can be difficult at first changing old habits, it can be done! 🙂

What tests are you still waiting for? Have a quick read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter - they should help fill you in with some of the detail and put everything in some sort of perspective. Have a browse of our 'Useful Links' thread for links to some other good sources of information 🙂

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns - there are no 'daft' questions, so if it is bothering you, let us know and we will do our best to help out 🙂

Thats just me Martin, there is loads of fantastic food and recipes available. I can just look at food as fuel and neck what i need. I did'nt mean to give the impression that food has to be / is boring

Welcome Dave, it takes a while to sink in, I still catch my brain doing a double take when someone says "oh you're diabetic" and I've been diagnosed 2 1/2 years now 🙂
