I am currently doing an apprenticeship in business and admin at a the hospital in walsall. I have been with the diabetic secretaries ( oh the irony) and they have just completed the annual audit on diabetic inpatients. I spent the whole day photocopying the forms which took forever but I found it very interesting.
Out of 82 patients only two were type 1, and most of the type 2's were medicated. I hear all the time that there are more type 2's than 1 but this kinda brought home the point. Nearly all were over the age of 70 as many are being treated by elderly care and not the diabetes service. I dont recall coming across a patient who was admitted with DKA either!
Its nice to know were not alone. I do feel like I have rattled on here for a fair bit lol 🙂
