I have been diagnosed type2 ,wondering if i can eat ham from deli counter ,i no i need to stear clear of packed processed meats ,but wondered if i can have ham from deli if it is just plain ham,not honeyed glazed etc , not even sure if i have posted on the right forum ,new to site

It's carbohydrates we have to particularly manager. As diabetes meat and fats aren't a particular issue. So I see no reason to avoid any ham. Other than beef being nicer.

Ham is virtually zero carbs and even with honey glaze will not significantly affect your BG level unless you eat an extraordinary amount.

Hi Jackie22, welcome to the forum 🙂 Love the avatar :D

Yes, meat and cheese are fine - as mentioned, it is the amount of carbohydrates that you need to be conscious of - so things like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, sugary items, pastries etc. Not that you can't eat these things at all, just that these are the things that will have the greatest impact on your blood glucose levels 🙂

Have you been given any medication for your diabetes? How did your diagnosis come about? It's not great to get a diagnosis of diabetes, but the good news is that it can be managed well and doesn't have to stop you doing things - many people find that the adjustments they make actually result in them feeling happier and healthier than they have for some time! 🙂

I'd recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter to help you to understand what it's all about. I'd also recommend getting a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker which will help guide you through these early weeks and months. If you have any questions, please ask away and we will be very happy to help 🙂

Welcome to the forum @Jackie22 🙂, I don't think your Dr meant to avoid packeted hams etc as if they are any different it would only really be that it has added water, I think they more likely meant things in sauces etc etc 🙂 x
