I'm very frustrated on your behalf because they should be able to do the OCT scan as part of a retinal appointment at the eye department rather than you having to wait for the outcome. Three times when I've been to the retinal clinic they've done it there and then - each time the machine wasn't being used by anyone else and it was operated by a nurse - whichever clinic nurse was available. Ok that's my rant bit over

. Basically the OCT scan shows lots of pretty colours showing whether your macula is swollen (macula odema) and, if it is, the amount of the swelling. With what I know now about my macula if I received such a letter I would see someone privately ASAP - if it's clear then great nothing to worry about. If the news isn't so good then it can be dealt with ASAP before it causes more damage. I don't say this because I can easily afford private treatment, I can't now that I don't work, but I know how difficult it is dealing with macula problems if they are not resolved quickly enough.
