Hi,

I found a cut under my toe today. It's a very thin cut, that goes across the crease of my skin. I'm assuming it's either cracked from the dry weather or I've stood on something and stretched the skin too far and it's split.

I've put some savalon on and put a clean thin pad around it with some socks.

This is the first cut on my foot I've had since being diagnosed and haven't had my foot check yet.

Do I need to worry about it? Is there anything particular I should be doing? I understand being diabetic holds higher risks with injuries, especially on the feet.

Thank you
Bx

Hi
The important thing is to keep it clean and antiseptic on it and check it every day. If it looks like it may be getting infected, then get to the docs and have it checked out. You are young and therefore less likely for your circulation to be poor, so it should heal just fine but the important thing is to keep a close eye on it and keep it clean and get help if it doesn't heal as you would expect.

Hello Bonnie I have had this happen to me just keep it clean with antiseptic cream on if worried see a doctor or a nurse My toes get very sore and dry since I have been on insulin Lou

@louloulou
I can highly recommend a product called Margaret Dabbs Foot Hygiene Cream. I have had dry skin and keens on my hands and feet all my life and this stuff is without doubt the most fantastic product I have come across in 55years and I have tried a lot!! It is a bit expensive at about £25 a pot but one pot lasts me a year and my feet are no longer painful, which makes it worth every penny to me and more so now that I have diabetes. It contains emu oil and Tea Tree oil which has anti bcterial properties and Salicylic Acid which has antifungal properties and it smells lovely.... like a really expensive spa treatment. It is greasy but absorbs into the skin... best applied at night after a shower and then socks on to ensure maximum benefit. You only need a tiny bit and I usually use it every 2-3 days at a maintenance level, but daily if I have a problem. It really nourishes the skin. I often use it on my hands too.

@Bonnie23 Hope your foot is healing nicely.

So pleased it has healed well.
