I was getting cramp really bad at night around a year ago, my Dr prescribed a course on quinnine and it sorted it out. I had a crampy feeling and painful leg last night, which might have been related to the fact I was up to 21 last night.

I am going to podiatory next week, i have been once before and was discharged because there was nothing they could do for me, have been re-refered as have blisters on my feet.

I take quinine as well and havent had any bad cramps since.. 🙂

can you get that on prescription!? Does it just take away the cramp, it doesn't actually help bad circulation i gather? Thanks or your advice, as always everyone x

cramp in your rectum!?!?

really!?!?

i got a date with my DSN on 20th April but they have never asked to look at my feet, they ask how my stools are (to which i reply "yeah just fine thanks")

will let u know what she says, but omg, it is blooming painful, even though i had the cramp last night, i can still feel where it was...

xxx

That reminds me, when i was diagnosed they asked if my stools flushed away easily lol, forgot about that :D I just said yes........but thinking about it sometimes they do float, sorry about that but they do 🙄 do you think it is the sugar :D

Anyway cramp, bloody awful, used to get a lot at diagnosis, nightime left thigh, soooo bad i would cry out loud, my partner wondered what on earth was happening, so bad i could not move or turn over in bed. Oh the joy, not happened for ages, thank goodness.

"Floating stools are seen in a variety of different situations. Most are diet-related, or caused by episodes of diarrhea that accompany a gastrointestinal infection. A change in diet can lead to an increase in the amount of gas produced by the bacteria found in the (healthy) gastrointestinal tract.

Similarly, acute gastrointestinal (GI) infections can result in increased gas in the intestines, due to rapid movement of food through the GI tract. One wrong idea is that floating stools are caused by an increase in the fat content of the stool. In fact, it is increased gas in the stool that make it less dense and allow it to float.

Another cause of floating stools is malabsorption, in which the body can't properly digest and absorb fat and other nutrients from the GI tract. More than 2 weeks of diarrhea with floating stools is often seen in people suffering from malabsorption.

Increased levels of nutrients in the stool (which have not been absorbed by the GI tract) are supplied to the normal bacteria that live in the gut. These bacteria in turn produce more gas. This results in more gas-rich stools that float."

i had cramp in my right foot last night- the 3 right toes! i hate cramp but if it happens it tends tobe when ive just stretched that muscle out. ?hamstrings?- backs of my legs, calfs and toes are the main places i get it. i was on the understanding it happens when you dont have enough water and salt in your body?

Hellbell84. The quinine does stop the cramps and yes you can get it on prescription from
your DR's.

I think it is to do with salt. So I guess, thinking out loud here, maybe it can be a sign of high sugars/undiagnosed diabetes as then your body would be 'flushing' the glucose out so maybe some salt goes too.....?

Oh:confused:

i dont think that i have any of that, maybe i just need to check out the plumbing? :D

A wee point to note - my late mother suffred terribly from leg cramps and was prescribed quinine, but following a few months on quinine - she went deaf. This is apparantly q common side effect of the quinine.

Once she stopped taking quinine, her hearing came back.

She endeed up saying she would rather have the cramps, rather than be deaf

Hazel. I have been on quinine for the past 18 years and have not experienced any hearing loss so I suppose that I have been lucky.
