Closed loop funding

I've not seen my consultant for almost 2 years. Every few months I receive notification that my appt has been postponed. Currently it's set for April, but holding out much hope!

There are people in far worse situations/ circumstances than I am. I'm also aware that my diabetes clinic are really struggling to meet targets in terms of moving people onto pumps and closed loop.
2 years? That’s a really long time.

There are definitely people in far worse situations though, I do think about that.

There must be something you can do here, this is not acceptable. Do you get support from your GP practice too?

Yes. My DSN at the clinic is very good and due to my moving onto a pump and more recently the closed loop, I've had support from her. Part of the issue was the shift to a pump meant my consultant changed, but no one told me. Apparently there are different consultants based upon their specialism. My GP was rather grumpy with me, demanding ti know why I'd not had my bloods done for so long - had the letter that issues a vague threat about cancelling prescriptions etc. My surgery then took bloods after I complained about his stance and the issues I'd had with my consultant.

Sorry to hear about the length of time between your appointments @Ivostas66

Are you getting BP checks and blood tests from your GPin the meantime? Along with retinal screening appointments?

Yes. GP surgery booked me an appt with the surgery's nurse recently and I had bloods done. The clinic and surgery schedule them annually. Consultant used to try to arrange it so they fell 6 months apart. The lengthy delay/ postponements with the clinic and then hearing nothing from the surgery in the meantime led to the big delay with blood tests and the grumpy letter. Had my eye screening Nov '23, so hopefully that pops up soon.

Glad your GP surgery are on the ball - It is a postcode lottery I'm afraid when it comes to overall healthcare though IMO - I've never seen a consultant since diagnosis back in July '22 (saw a locum doctor once at the hospital and TBH I had more idea of the condition then he did and I'd only been diagnosed 6m before) - that said, my GP is amazing and the DSNs in the trust I'm with are very good - all swings and roundabouts

Eye screening is every 2 years in most areas now unless you have eye complications

Yes, but "complications" includes the lowest level of background retinopathy.
Yes of course, since background retinopathy is a diabetes complication

Just had my appointment - the dietitian said she’d speak to the nurse and get me on the pump waiting list - should be about 6-12 months.

Good stuff @Lily123 - No chance of a pump for me - got my latest HbA1c result back this afternoon and it was 44 (which I'm really happy with, but it is a constant struggle, which is not taken into account with the guidelines, sadly) - Libre said 39 so quite a way away, as expected

Thanks - my HbA1c was 43 but luckily I meet the guidance - hopefully with the roll out of closed loop, you’ll meet the guidance sooner rather than later.
