Hi Cheryl and welcome to the forum.

Well done on the weight-loss and great to have you here. You mention that you cannot get below 7 - have you had some reduction in your bg levels since diagnosis?
If you started off very high, it is actually better to bring your levels down gradually, rather than be below 7mmol/l immediately. You can see what the target ranges are here (halfway down the page): https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing
Remember that these numbers are, as they say, targets. What sort of readings are you getting when you test at the moment? If you are getting a little over, it is not something to worry about to much now, you are recently diagnosed as you say. If your levels are coming down a little, then you are on the right track and can work towards 7mmol/l.

Please do feel free to keep asking questions, there is lots of support and experience here, so ask away 🙂

Welcome Cheryl

There is plenty of useful advice that I have found on this forum.
I know that quite a few people with T2 have found this book useful
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker
It takes people through explanations and various strategies for managing their condition.

Hi Cheryl and welcome 🙂 is it just the morning levels that are higher? What are your numbers throughout the day? Especially 2 hours after eating? Some people do seem to struggle with those early morning readings.

Hi Cathy my evening levels are about one digital up eg if my post breakfast levels are 7.2 my evening ones 2 hours after food are 7.3 also I don't eat after 6 o'clock but I cannot get down to under 7

What kind of foods are you eating? Carbohydrates are the worst things for pushing our bg levels up, I chose to completely cut rice, pasta, potatoes and the only bread I eat is Burgen. Fruit is another challenge for me, the guide is two small pieces a day but I can only tolerate one 😉

Hi Cathy I also have cut out bread , rice potato and pasta I did my blood this morning 8.9 considering I have tuna tomato and green salad for dinner last night I thought that carnt be right so I did it again straight away and it read 6.9
I have been having problems with the glucomitor the nurse gave me I don't think it is working correctly as I did it the other morning and it read error 4 which when I looked it up in my book said I was in a coma I have got my own which is recommended by diabetes UK however I was told to use the one she gave me I suppose it's down to funding maybe there strips and needles are cheaper I don't know doing my head in

Different meters can vary a little so as long as you are using the same one regularly it shouldn’t matter which one it is. The code free meter is the cheapest both for the device and the test strips, if you are getting them on prescription and she wants you to use a certain one then she needs to replace it if you feel it’s faulty. Are you on any medication? Also, how long since you changed your diet? It may be that your body needs a little more time to adjust? Your numbers are not horrendous so I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point.
