Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
im newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and an over active thyroid since May 2019, i am also insulin based my sugar levels are still all over the place, it has taken over my life and im struggling with all this in so many ways to get a doctors appointment is a nightmare so looking for any tips to help me control this new life style please

Hi @Jan M welcome , it’s all a bit daunting, is your diagnosis of Diabetes T2 just recent, and I wonder why you are already on insulin as 1st line treatment of type 2 is usually in tablet form and advice re diet etc
Diabetes is usually diagnosed by 2 fasting blood sugars being taken and having 2 high results.
Are you aware of what these results were, and also the reasons why you were commenced immediately on insulin if that indeed is the case.
I think you should definitely arrange an appointment to speak to your GP to discuss your current treatment regime and find out the reasons behind your treatment plan as they are not in line with prescribing guidelines generally applied to T2 diabetes.
It’s difficult to offer more advice without knowing more information about your diabetes , your treatment plan and the reasons behind it
Hope this may be of some help and if you have any specific questions there should be someone here that can help .
Regards
M.

Hi Jan and welcome. I agree with Martin, you need to know and understand your treatment regime to make the right choices for you.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi Jan and welcome.
Can you tell us a bit about the circumstances of your diagnosis. Being prescribed insulin as a Type 2 diabetic is pretty unusual in the first instance, so knowing how your diabetes diagnosis came about might shed light on that.
An overactive thyroid suggests that you may have lost weight suddenly. If this is the case, I am wondering if you are perhaps Type 1 Diabetic and someone has made the assumption you are Type 2 simply because of your age... ie you are not a child or young adult. There is no definitive test for Type 2, the blood tests they do simply indicate that your Blood Glucose is high and you are therefore diabetic. The testing for Type 1 diabetes is more expensive and usually requested by a consultant or hospital team and involves an antibody and c-peptide test. Many GPs don't even know that Type 1 can develop later in life and some here have had to educate their GP to the contrary.
Knowing more information will help us to give you the most appropriate advice.
