Yesterday I had a packet of crisps (Walker, Cheese & Onion); first packet in 6months and when I ate them I thought 'what was the fuss about'.....

Today I had 2 sausages; again haven't had one for a while and the same thought ran through my head....although they we're tasty🙄

What does this tell me...

I thought cutting out junk from my diet was going to be difficult; but its been easier than I thought.. what I did really enjoy even more was the handful of walnuts I had at lunch.... You can exercise your body to lose the fat but you can also re-programme your mind to lose the cravings.... 🙂

I thought similar with the battenburg slices I had yesterday! chucked em out!!

shame I can't say the same for the coco pops I had for lunch today!

Did you eat a few crisps and throw the rest away or did you finish the packet?🙂
If you get high quality sausages with a high meat content then you can eat them. There are some with a low carb content if you are counting carbs.
Christmas is a testing time for all of us so beware.🙂
It is early days yet Amanda. Some of us can stick to the plan and some fall off the wagon from time to time.
You have done so well since diagnosis but there will be testing times ahead, there always are.

I ate the full packet; only because we had no bread and I didn't want cereal...🙄 I had 2 lincolnshire sausages today - they we're nice because husband cooked them well done and they we're very hot...
I'm allowing myself a sweet treat for christmas but don't know yet what...just can't make my mind up...
I am just suprised how my taste buds have changed in a short period of time - before diagnosis I ate crisps nearly every day after a sandwich - normally followed by a chocolate bar. I ate so much rubbish...such a sweet tooth...

I'm sure I will fall off the wagon at some point; but do plan working hard at that time being in the future...

The same thing happened to me Amanda. Although I still have sweet things - usually a chocolate biscuit after my evening meal or ice cream with some fruit - I no longer crave them at all. The same has happened to me with crisps - I used to be quite a voracious crisp consumer prior to diagnosis but lost the taste for them after a couple of months and now never buy them. I noticed the other day that they are now twice the price I used to pay for them! Moreover, on those occasions where I have decided to be 'bad', I still can't bring myself to get the really bad stuff - I now check the packets and only buy moderately bad things!

I still enjoy sausages, although I have two now instead of four, and always high quality/meat content. The one thing I do need to cut down on though is dry roasted peanuts - they are better for me than crisps (which they have largely replaced) but are quite high calorie and salt.

Is ice-cream ok? when I was diagnosed with fatty liver I was told to cut out all saturated fats - I have although I do have a very slim slither of spread on my toast in the morning; if I have poached egg I cut out the spread.. I've been told not to worry about my liver because all my organs are functioning ok and the liver can repair itself... my taste-buds have changed alot; I had a slice of cornbeef the other day and I didn't enjoy it because it tasted so salty...I've really grown to love the 'good' stuff including chickpeas....

I need to try and moderate my weight now because I haven't really increased my calorie intake; I reached target goal last week and feel I may have lost a little more this week; I can afford to lose a little more because of my height but don't want to go too far... how do you do this without compromising a healthy balanced diet....

I feel the same about some things, but cheese...! There's a different story!!:Dxx

I think as soon as the indicators show you liver is happy again (or are you due for another scan some time?) then you probably can have a little of what you fancy (be it ice cream or whatever).

Regarding your diet and stopping the weight loss. I'd have thought all you'd need to do was just eat a little more of what you have been eating! For me, I've decided to set a weight range (i.e. 13.5 to 14.0 stone). If I go below 13.5st then I'll just scoff a little more freely. If I go above 14st then I'll go back to my semi-restrictive diet.

Recently, that approach has been working quite well for me (I've been stable below 14st for the last three months).

Andy 🙂

I've found exactly the same, newtothis - though it's still early days, and maybe I'll get fed up after a year without treats.

I don't miss sweet things at all, really. I bought myself a bar of intense dark chocolate figuring I could allow myself one square a day on the basis that the first mouthful tastes best: I don't even bother having that every day. I seem to have transitioned quite easily to someone who just doesn't (rather than can't) eat sweets.

Oddly, it reminds of when (about 25 years ago) I gave up sugar in tea and coffee. I cut down from 2 sugars to one, and a few days later tasted a tea with 1 and thought it was horrible. Cut sugar out and now wouldn't dream of touching it even before diagnosis!

Although I'm really strict on sweet stuff, and with more difficulty savoury pastry too, I am still having to allow myself a little latitude on fatty foods (cheese etc) - you can't do everything at once 😱

Walkers crisps are pants, the only crisps we buy now are Seabrooks and the cheese & onion are gorgeous:D

Does anyone think the same as me? - I only had 1 tsp sugar in tea, none in coffee pre D - then instantly gave it up in tea when D arrived. First thing I thought was - that's more thirst-quenching than any cuppa I've ever had before and later whenever I accidentally took a swig of 2-sugar husband's tea - it tasted sour! Not sweet at all ! And things that are sweet, are amazingly sweet, which I've never had a taste for, so I can't actually eat anywhere near as much of em as I once could, even if I wanted to.

How useful to me is that? :D

Mistakenly picked up a work colleagues coffee with sugar in and took a sip - I was nearly sick:( Non of my family take sugar in tea or coffee and we last bought sugar about 2 years ago for people visiting.

Seabrooks were my favourites too - Bradford crisps, far superior! :D I do remember though how Walkers managed to almost completely take over the market from Golden Wonder and Smiths with some brilliant advertising campaigns in the '70s and '80s.

Smiths crisps were nice too, the trouble with walkers is the quantity in the packet. Whatever happened to KP crisps? KP's cheese & onion were as good as Seabrooks

Everything tastes diffirent now, for a number of months ive had the same horrible taste in my mouth so food for me is no longer an enjoyment

I am also giving myself a treat for Christmas....a whole box of biscuits and maximum insulin lol Maybe not!!
