Has anyone needed yag laser soon after cataract surgery? I've been told I need it as the capsule the new lens is put in has started to turn opaque which decreases the bit of sight I've got. I've read about it and the laser burns away the opaque part of the capsule so light can get through to the retina but I'd hoped the need for laser anywhere near my eyes was over..

The ophthalmologist told me it usually happens in younger people who have cataracts - (I'm pleased I still fall in that category). I just want to know if it solved the problem completely or if there were any ongoing issues with pressure changes in the eye etc.

Oh the challenges of eye complications ! 🙄

Hi Flower
Yes I had the yag laser about four years after my cataract surgery for exactly the same reason, yag was recommended by my glaucoma consultant so I don't think she had concerns about the effect on pressures. However the person who did my yag laser was rather aggressive and I don't know whether the retinal membrane that I have over my macula was caused by the yag laser - it might be worth checking that and making sure that you have someone who really knows what they're doing with the laser i.e. if you can an actual consultant - mine was done by a junior doctor - my vision definitely improved by one line in each eye after the yag laser.

Thanks Amanda 🙂 It's good to know it improved your vision despite the person who performed it not sounding great.

I'm nervous as I only have sight in my macula and somebody aiming a laser near there is freaking me slightly! They said they would do it early next year as it's appeared only a few weeks after surgery.

My husband had to have this after a lens replacement flower and it’s been ok. He was told the steroids they use can cause a milky whiteness. I absolutely second Amanda’s recommendation about getting the very best surgeon you can. My husband had the original lens replacement done privately but it took a skilled NHS eye surgeon to put it right when he couldn’t! He still has occasional floaters in his eye but they settle.

Worrries the hell out of me because I need cataract surgery doing! Hope it all goes well Flower.

Hi Flower, one of my replacement lenses went cloudy so a young very good looking Dr zapped it for me and normal vision 6/30 returned to that eye within 24 hours. I have a lazy eye hence the 6/30 🙂.
It's a about 5 single zaps by the laser and all you hear is the clicks as it's done. Please don't worry about it. ((((((((hugs)))))))))) Oh and once the drops have worked (20mins) it takes less than 5 mins to complete.
