I'm so confused about carbs and sugar. I buy sugar free zero biscuits by gullon, it says
Carbs 68g per 100g and carbs 9.0 per biscuit.
Sugar per 100g 0.5g and sugar 0.5g per biscuit. Are they going to rise my blood sugar ?
Any advice.

68% carbohydrate and all carbs turn to sugar once ingested.
Just look at the carb amount.
Biscuits will never be any good for you as a T2.

All carbohydrates raise your blood sugar not just the sugar content. If you use up some of the energy eg by having a biscuit before a walk then it might not raise your blood sugar as much.

@harrydocuk. Sugar is a generic term for one type of carbohydrate and my approach is not to separate it from all the other carbohydrates. I just look at total carbohydrate.

I also disagree with @bulkbiker ‘s assertion that, quote, "Biscuits will never be any good for you as a T2". That sort of sweeping statement is, in my opinion, unhelpful. Much better you understand the issues and work out what will suit you best. That could well be very different to somebody else's approach.

For example, I am very partial to chocolate brownie but I have not taken the bulkbiker approach and treated it as something that will never be good for me as a T2 simply because sugar and flour figure highly in the recipe. I am just very particular about which chocolate brownie I eat, how much of it I eat in one go, and when I eat it. That way the rise in blood glucose I get is kept within bounds whilst I get the pleasure in eating it. Win all round in my book.

I am very partial to chocolate brownie
Indeed you maybe ... but is your blood sugar equally partial to it?

I really don't think a biscuit or a brownie will ever be "good" for a T2 per se.
May not do a lot of harm in the short term but the dose is the poison.

If I did want to eat a chocolate brownie I'd be making them myself and using low carb options in the mixture - I have never eaten that sort of thing anyway - I assume it is something baked and bunlike, as I have always found carbs an unfortunate foodstuff - but sugarfreelondoner website has lots of recipes for baked goods when I have wanted to make something suitable.

It is as far as I am concerned.

It is also really rather absurd to talk of chocolate brownie as poison. By doing so you are implying that by eating it I am some sort of idiot. Thanks for that.

" T2 under control using a mix of medium carb diet, exercise, weight control and pills."

You see I'm saving the exercise, weight control and pills as a back up if ever I need them.

For the time being I'm happy to look on a chocolate brownie as very not beneficial for my overall health so I avoid eating them. I use food as fuel rather than entertainment and I no longer consider chocolate brownie as in any way food.

I'm hopeless at moderation as the past year and my ice cream problem (and consequent weight gain) has shown.
So it's cold turkey again.

@bulkbiker. No problem there are many different ways of going about getting glucose control of blood glucose. My way suits me, your way suits you. I think my way is more reflective of the general experience of forum members and is a better starting point for many who are new to diabetes and are trying to sort out what will suit them.

What do you think @harrydocuk? Are you any further forward?

By the way, I only know you by your posts on this forum and I have got to agree with you that you are hopeless when it comes to moderation!

I'm partial to a rich tea finger, well several of them actually! They are only 3.8g carb and 23 kcals per biscuit. Because of this I started having a few every day well within my calorie count. I didn't put any weight on, but suddenly realised my waist was slightly bigger. I've stopped them now and my waist is back to normal...saggy and baggy 😉 So they are clearly not for me, and I'll stick with my strawberries, chopped nuts and double cream for pud. More calories but so much better for my waistline.
As @Docb says, what works for one may not for someone else.

soon after being diagnosed I got my metformin down from 4 tablets a day to 1. Every time I went to the doctors my results were very good, and I put that down to my friend who lives with me. Buddy is a Japanese akita 13 years old. We walked every day sometimes 3 walks sometimes 4 times a day. Because of the pandemic it was near 2 years before the doctor contacted me for my diabetes.
I am now on 2 tablets a day. I also was told I was due a foot inspection the first time in seven years.
The worst thing you can do is take your on bloods
told this by 2 doctors and a nurse. If you are not feeling well come straight up to the surgery.
When this happened I explained I wasn't feeling well and told them I wasn't to take my own bloods.
So very quickly I was given an appointment for 2 weeks time. Needless to say I told them to give the appointment to someone who really needs it.
That's my rant over. Buddy and I don't get out very often because of his age and I will be 70 soon plus my arthritis doesn't help. The don't take your own bloods was because they didn't want to give me the monitor test strips.

Many GP don't prescribe a monitor and test strips to Type 2s so they self fund to enable them to keep a track of their blood glucose and to be able to make better decisions about meals and gives them control over managing their condition.
Not only does a monitor enable you to find which foods are not so good because your body cannot tolerate the amount of carbohydrates but will help you find the food you can safely eat.
Inexpensive monitors can be bought on line, the GlucoNavii or Spirit TEE2 are ones with the cheaper test strips but worth shopping around.
Can I suggest you look at this link for some meal ideas and some information about how to manage your condition. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Hi thank you, I got the GlucoNavii monitor and find greek yoghurt with frozen cherries and some walnuts don't send my sugar up as much as wholemeal bread and a poached egg.
Again thank you. I have downloaded the freshwell app and so happy you pointed it out to me.

Glad that you have got your test kit, which can help you find out the impact of various foods/portions sizes on your glucose levels. I find that doing something for 15 min after a meal helps to ‘use up‘ some of the glucose, which will have come from any carbohydrates that I have eaten. It is all a case of finding what works for you.

I enjoy a biscuit now and then, and can quote the carbs on many of the common ones offered at meetings. I find a small treat at the end of a meal, so long as I know the carbs is great. I treat myself to a single chocolate, so go for what I most prefer and enjoy it. For me that is plain chocolate brazils, just one a day. Makes them last a lot longer than they used to!!!!!

Find what your body can manage best, and a way of eating that you can sustain.

How much does it go up by when you eat bread and an egg?
And does it come back down again?

Mabe starts at 8 and would go up to 11.5 after 2 hours but it will come down again. That was one slice of brennans wholemeal bread with french president butter I use a cheese slicer for a thin slice of butter and a soft poached egg.

The carbs in the bread look like 15g for the 1 slice and the other stuff pretty well nothing, although the increase is just borderline on what is suggested as a max increase it seems bad because you are starting at quite a high before meal level.
Many people are more sensitive to carbs in the morning so you may find the same food later in the day, say for lunch would not have the same increase.
