Hi,
Just want to run some figures past you for comments etc. As you can see there is some dreaded potato there and bread. I must stress this is start and I don't want to crash diet in one big leap, I doubt is good. In addition my previous carb intake must have been well over 300.
I think down to about 130to 150 max is a start?
The bread is home made, wholemeal/whole spelt/whole rye, high fibre for my Divertic.
have been weighing everything!
For example:
Toast/benecol spread 50g, 20c (carbs)
Peach slices, 4 70g 8c
Chicken sandwich/benecol 70g, 27c
Apple 74g, 9c
Roast chicken 0
fine beans80g tomato puree/garlic
carrots 80g total 7c
dreaded pots! Croquette 46g, 12c
Plain white sauce, 5c
Nuts, almonds/pecans 50g, 10c

Does this look right?
Thanks for being so patient.
Doug

The advice on the lowcarbprogram is to start at 130g-150g but I went for 100g and got my diabetes under control much faster.
I didn't see milk on the list, do you have any in tea/coffee?
Try swapping the peaches and apple to berries, as a portion of blueberries or raspberries is lower in carbs.
Try mixing mashed cauliflower or butternut squash into the potato to reduce the carbs. And add a second green veg and green salad at lunch so you can eat less fruit?

And maybe ask your GP/DN if they will 'prescribe' the lowcarbprogram (it is available on the NHS) as the programme has a food diary to calculate carbs and loads of recipes and advice.

HI TW,
Thanks for the info. Did not know lowcarbprogram existed, or heard of it, just me trying to pluck a figure that seemed ok. Yes have milk, tea coffee, semi skimmed. Berries are too risky, I have diverticulosis, I know many say safe to eat but I wont risk it. Will pursue that low carb program/NHS. I dont have a DN, diabetic nurse. Lots of jargon here to get used to! I noticed tesco frozen mash (!) is 15g/100 which seems low for potato. Thinking of small amount for sun roasts! and can make small amount for just me..
Thanks for taking time to reply, very helpful

Don't be surprised if it is not available in your area, as I have not read of anyone on here been prescribed it.

That is terrible, it should be available!

I’ve never heard of a nhs low carb program either.

@DougC . I use frozen mashed potato, it’s not quite the same as you make at home, but it’s pretty good, I add a bit of butter to it.
Some people find they can have a few small new potatoes, without it spiking their BG (blood glucose)
You could have some walnuts

Imo it’s wise to start lowcarbing gradually .

If we use jargon that you’re not clear on, just ask, one of us will be happy to explain. Their is an abbreviation list somewhere in the newbies forum but imo it’s easier to ask rather than to trawl through a rather long list.

Hi Lin, thanks. Yup frozen not same as home made but handy portions, and seems lowest carb spuds! It only a small amount to keep the carbs in check.
I weigh everything and count it all, even a squeeze of sauce, love the Hienz garlic sauce.
I eat almonds and pecans, for the calories and fibre as they have skin on. I add XVOO/EVOO =extra virgin olive oil to the finished meal for same reason. I think this works ok. I agree lowe carbs gradually, I think that I have to been to hard on my self at moment. Maybe 150 daily ok.
