Hi

Can you describe the side effects you have had with Simvastatin.

I am waiting to see the doctor next Wednedsday but for the last 10 day I have had very achy legs.

Can you describe the type of side effects you had with Simvastatin?

For me, it was aching legs/muscles and upset stomach.

I've been taking them for the last 4 years and must be lucky as I've not noticed any 🙂

I have had Simvastatin since 2004 and have been fine.

Thankfully I haven't had any probs.

I'm only on 10mg per day.

Have you stopped taking them to see if your achy legs improve? May be worth doing before you go to Dr's next Wednesday as this would show it is simvastatin you are reacting to. They can prescribe a different statin to simvastatin which may be better for you.

No especially (more) achey anything. I had memory problems such as losing someone's name (eg my only sister) whilst talking to them, or completely forgetting a word in the middle of a sentence I was typing, which I had already pre-composed in my head.

If the statin has caused damage, you might not see an improvement after only one week, my memory didn't start to improve at all for over a week, by 3 weeks it was remarkably better. OTOH of course; I spose there's no point whatever in making it worse, if it is that?

I had a bad case of Hives in my legs, especially at night, great big lumps and itching that nearly drove me mad. Doctor changed prescription to Atorvastatin in 2008, no problems since then.

Simvastatin dose was 1x 20mg at night.

my mother is on Simvastatin, and she has the upset stomachs, i will ask her about the achy legs, but considering she is awaiting operations on both knees, I think she may well have overlooked that one!

My DH had such bad pains in his legs and tiredness that he gave up taking them and then went to the doc who changed the Simvastatin to Atorvastatin only to have the same effect. He's stopped taking them again and feels 100% better. He has an appointment with the doc for 2 week's time (she's on her hols) and is dreading what will be tried on him next.:(

I have taken Simvastatin for many years, my legs mussle are achy & week but my shins are really painful. I have tried others but all had side effects, Atorvastatin was the worse my Achillies tendon were so painful & swollen I couldn't walk.

I have been statins since the mid nineties, apart from occasional cramp's in my feet and hands, I do not consider the side effects to be severe.

I do not have a choice I suffer from FH, without statins I would possibly not be about writing this reply. All medication have side effects some negligible some not so, you have to consider what you are taking the medication for.

Looking on the bright side at least as diabetics, we do not have pay for the medication!

Keep well🙂

Was on Atorvastatin for six years 20mg. Then Docs suggested 40mg Simvastatin cos cheaper but did the same job. I agreed to a trial of Sim two years ago and I am still on it and never had any side effects that I know of from Ator or Sim. And chols, allegedly, "like a baby's" at 2.8

Don't stop taking any medications without consulting your doctor first. I was on simvastatin for about 6 months after diagnosis. I developed very bad muscle cramps, particularly at night, and stiff aching joints. I also suffered from nausea, but it's difficult to say whether all this was due to the statins because I was on several other medications at the time. The problems did stop a couple of weeks after stopping taking them.

I have been on Simvastatin for years and have built up to 40mg based on blood test results.

Family history of heart problems and was on them long before I was diagnosed with diabetes.

No real problems. Since starting with Metformin I have noticed leg cramps but had nothing like that before starting the Metformin. Perhaps it is those two drugs combined, don't know, but do know that just like a previous poster, I believe I am still here because of Simvastatin helping to control my cholesterol and allow my heart to function properly.

Thanks for your updates everyone.

I have been on Simvastatin for about 18 months and not had any problems apart from a little bit of achey legs now and again which was quite easy to live win.

The main problem started when I went away for a week and forgot to take my Simvastatin with me 😱. When I returned and started taking my tablets after about a week of taking them i had had the most achey painful uncomfortable pains in my legs so much so that I was taking 6-8 painkillers a day which is very unusual for me. I continued taking the tablets for a further week and the pain seemed to increase. For the last week I have not taken the tablets and my pains are decreased a little bit still not right. What an earth do these tablets do to your muscles

I have got a doctors appoinment on Wednesday so will see what that brings.

I have also got my yearly Hba1c blood test on Tueday as well. O dear not been as good as I should of been so expecting to been put on Metaformin.

Onwards and upwards

Hi been to the doctors today. He has kept me on Simvastatin but halved the strength. Going to review again in 2 months.

Obviously if muscles problems are still a problem I need to go back and they will try me on different tablets.
