brilliant weekend at FFL

I do feel a bit hypocritical sitting here stating it is for children & their families - before we got a place at the conference, I discussed myself and Tom going with the lady organising the conference - she agreed as she thought we would be good people for parents to talk to, being as we were diagnosed very very young and have grown up with and gone through the teen years with d.

I imagine that you and Tom are the perfect people for children and their families to meet at such an event Shiv - a wonderful example 🙂 It would be nice if there was one with such specialist speakers aimed principally at adults.

Both you and Tom are wonderful examples of how young people cope with diabetes and pumps etc - so dont you dare feel like a hypocrit at all. It is great for the younger children to see cool young adults and how they deal with diabetes - your both great role models. (well maybe not Tom so much - after he ate 200 carbs for breakfast on sunday morning and then a hot chocolate - Alex was very impressed with that and wanted to know exactly what he ate!).:D

Seriously, dont feel awkward about going as Laura wouldnt have wanted you there if she didnt think you had something to offer - which you did. Also now you have been and had such expert advice - you will be great advocates for young diabetics and getting things right and using the latest research techniques - so the seed is planted and you just have to spread it!🙂Bev
 
2nd Update,

Alex is favouring either level 6 or 7 at his post meal check as a direct result of bolusing 15 minutes before everything he eats - amazing and long may it last!🙂Bev

What time is that test taken Bev? I tried it this morning and injected around 20 mins before eating a slice of toast and jam. I was 5.0 before and 10.8 an hour after eating (i.e. 1 hr 20 mins after injecting).

Hi Northey,
We have changed testing to 1 and a half hours after eating - or rather after bolusing as FFL said its better to do it at the 1 hour check as this is when your most likely to peak. I would think that perhaps you need to inject maybe 25 minutes before or perhaps you need to look at your ratios? What is your normal post meal check level?🙂Bev

I wonder if as Shiv suggests we could kick off a ball rolling for a similar conference for adults? Thoughts anyone?... I for one am seriously jealous & think it sounds like an amazing event... I too have had t1 since infancy but don't really qualify as a 'cool young adult' alas! 🙄 😛

Incidentally, (here's my 6 degrees of separation claim to fame!) one of the guest speakers at the American conference (Will Cross) is the son of the guy I compared 'war wounds' with in the bar at Daedalus mess once some years ago - he showed me his frost bitten thumbs post their south pole trek, I showed him my raw ankles post the RAF WARMA march lol! (It was quite late in the evening by then...!! 😱 )

I dont see any reason why you all couldnt have one for adults - I am sure you could find sponsors to help with it all. Love your claim to fame.:DBev

I tried the same again this morning, but injected 25 mins befor eating. I was 4.7 before and 6.5 1hr 30m after injecting. Just tested again at 2.5 hrs after injecting and I'm 8.0, so I do think it has probably lessened the spike this time 🙂
 
Thats really interesting Northe. But i would not be confident bolusing 25 mins before eating if i was 4.7 😱
