Hi

This Thursday I have to attend an external meeting 7am until 10am.
I have jsut started my new low gi diet and really want to stick to it.
The meeting includes breakfast and I would prefer to take something myself that is simple and easy to eat. Any ideas?
Don't really want to get my bowl of homemade muesli out in front of everyone!🙂

I think the breakfast will be bacon sarnies that is provided.

Do you know what kind of breakfast is provided? There may be something low GI you can have.

If not how about a whole meal sandwich and a piece of fruit?

Have bacon on one half of roll or one slice of bread?

I am trying to avoid bread at the moment Caroline.
I did think about yoghurt and fruit, but wasn't sure if it was enough.
Maybe if I added some babybel cheese to it too?

A similar meeting I went to like this Copepod only did white rolls and I won't touch white at all.🙂

Fruit salad with yoghurt sounds nice to me, though be careful with the amount of fruit.

It does annoy me when caters don't consider others - the number of times I attended buffets were most of the buffet was meat - mainly pig related and I would think there's not much here if you are vegetarian, or of any of the faiths that avoid pig products.

Do you know who's doing the catering? Perhaps they can make sure there is an acceptable option there. Otherwise, take your muesli anyway, I doubt anyone would seriously object.

Who knows - maybe they will do a continental type one too!🙄

I'd take my own, ANd have just the bacon from the sarnie. Yum!

I would have my breakfast before leaving home - as always - and then hide behind my diabetes as why I couldn't eat anything on offer!

I can't Marg - I am on quite set timings for my 6 meals a day and need to do this for 6 weeks - ref the consultant!

Breakfast 8am
Snack 10.30
Lunch 1pm
snack 3.30
Dinner 6.00
Supper 8.30

Its working so far!

Lucy if I were you I'd take what you normally have if possible - the museli if that's what you have. At least by sticking to the norm you will not have to worry and if anyone doesn't like it well, tough! Of course I am in a rather obstinate mood today! want me to come along too and join you in a bowl of museli??!

If they have anything that includes some form of protein - bacon, eggs, ham, fish, whatever - this sig from a friend of mine works well when I've been in that situation:

Eat the burger...toss the bun

Or cook up a tasty frittata or quiche the night before and take a slice.

I would just take your museli and don't worry about what people think, I'm sure there will be others that don't want bacon sandwiches and will think you have been very clever thinking to bring your own food 🙂 If not ask them if they can provide you with something suitable like museli (no added sugar!) or fruit and yogurt - I'm sure they would be understanding, or at least I hope so - I am going to a 4 day conference in Sept and will probably have similar worries nearer the time

I'd bring my own food in and if questioned say thank you but no thank you.

That sounds like a plan to me. It's your health after all. They should take account of of your needs. You can explain your reasons as much or as little as you feel. I would not be embarrassed telling them why though (e.g. you need to stick to a low gi diet for medical reasons).

Andy 🙂

Well no need to have worried in the end:

2 rashers bacon
1 tbsp scrambled egg
1 green tea
1 white tea:D
