Can anyone tell me why I am 46 hours into a 48 hr fast and my blood sugar is now at 10 mmol? This is the highest it's been in months, I'm confused!

Blood sugar comes from two sources, the food you eat, and the liver, which trickles out glucose 24/7 to keep your brain and vital organs ticking over. If the liver perceives that the body is under stress ( as it will be if you are fasting) it will kick out a bit more glucose to help your body fight off the cause of the stress, and so your blood glucose will rise.
Once you start eating again, you may find your levels drop, as if the source of the stress is now seen to be safely over, the body will use glucose to replenish the liver.
Is there any particular reason you are undergoing this fast?
 
I was always under the impression that diabetics had to eat regularly and not let their blood sugars get too low. Now I spend all my time trying not to let it get high. I like the idea of short fasting but why this long fast?
 
I have same problem. 42 hour fast and blood sugar 9.4. When I do eat it's low carb . Everyone talks about reversing their diabetes on low carb/fasting but I'm stuggling not to end up on Insulin.
 
If I miss one meal I go all lightheaded, hot and sweaty. Are we supposed to do this?
 
I just worked my way up from 16:8 to 42 hrs fast. Don't remember getting light headed but I can remember eating my fingernails to the bone. Now I use sugarfree cough sweets to take the edge off.

I can't see why this wouldn't be a relevant place to continue the discussion, since it is still on topic.
I think the original advice to eat regular meals for diabetics came from the type of insulin being used for type 1s requiring a regular input of carbs to keep them in some sort of balance. I am not sure it necessarily applies to Type 2s or Type 1s on modern day basal/bolus insulins.

I personally think that fasting in the form of missing a meal here and there is probably not a bad thing but 42hrs seems somewhat extreme to me and as stated, the liver may well start to push out glucose in response to that situation because the body senses that it is starving, in a similar but maybe more radical way that Dawn Phenomena works.
 
I found the same thing - if I did not eat breakfast my blood glucose went on rising until I did - logical really - needing to travel to/run after food takes energy.
By eating first thing and then again late in the day my ever so helpful liver snoozes throughout.
