Hi,
I have been told that powder of black plum seeds have immense benefits in terms of modulating BG.
I have been advised to take spoonful mixed with warm water in morning. Was wondering if anybody else has tried it. I understand spoonfuls of dried black plum seed powder itself won't help you manage diabetes and More important is diets, exercise etc.
However if it does work then no harm trying it out.

Thanks

Sounds like snake oil to me I’m afraid :(
Where did you get this information? If it's from someone who is trying to sell the product then I’d definitely treat it with extreme caution!
The only way to control your blood sugar levels is by being careful with carbohydrate intake and doing lots of testing to see which foods you can and can't get away with, there is no magic short cut :(

Sadly there are many unscrupulous people out there who are only too happy to part us from our hard earned cash. I think this is snake oil too.

I don’t believe there’s any truth in this I’m afraid. Otherwise one or other of the Pharma companies would have purified it, demonstrated its effectiveness in clinical trials and would be selling it as a medication.

I'm sticking with my cinnamon (for BG control) and grapefruit juice (for cholesterol control).

But not because they probably don't work, but because they are tasty. 🙂

Warning! Grapefruit juice should not be taken alongside some (other) medications.

But I suppose that we can't exclude the possibility that the great singer might be involved.... Placebo Domingo. 😉

Total nonsense! It annoys me that at regular intervals some food or additive is promoted as having magical properties. Was it last year raspberries were claimed to be beneficial for Type II diabetes. I think 1lb reduced BG by 0.1, i.e. within the margin of error.

Frankly, been there done that with cinnamon - it was touted as the cure for T2 when I was first diagnosed, Because it is impossible to consume enough of it to get sufficient of the component that might be helpful, it will never work, (OTOH I use it usually in powdered form in all sorts of things and I've never contracted T2 so perhaps it does work!!!)
If it was that good, they'd be extracting it from the bark and turning it into pills, to make money from, wouldn't they! 😛

ISTR you shouldn't mix grapefruit juice with statins?

PS. What's a Black Plum then - anyone got a tree? - cos I only know Victoria and Egg.

This might be a variation of the apricot kernel thing promoted for cancer treatment by various unscrupulous quacks.

Be careful, these kernels contain small amounts of naturally occurring cyanide, in normal circumstances that wouldn't be an issue, but people using them as medicine can end up consuming much more than it is safe.

As pointed out above, if it did work, the pharmaceutical companies would have isolated the active principle and made a real medicine with it.
