How many carbs do you account for with apples?

If you look at the back of the pack and say it says 11.5g per 100 g, is that only of eaten apple? Does it take into consideration the core which is chucked?

The apples we buy are 120g on average so this works @11.5g per 100g to

14g carbs roughly. However, I never take into consideration the core, and it only dawned on me recently that i was possbily over - egging the apples!

The only way to be sure is to weigh the apple and then the remains. A tad OTT maybe?

No it's not esp if you are very sensitive to insulin. Obviously with you only being on diet and exercise you have no insight as to how things work. 🙂

Ben either slice or core an apple and see what difference it makes to you. You know it's the right bolus though if you are not having a hypo after your apple.

I stand corrected! Is there a significant difference between varieties? Granny Smiths are a bit sour, I like the taste of Russets better.

Hi Lee, not to sure about the dif carb values in eating apple, but cooking apples are a couple of grams less per 100g than eating. No idea why but there you go. 🙂

Ill eat a few in name of experimentation..! If only Chocolate had cores.

Well kids say core that's nice, does that count? :D

Round where I live they say, "Yam diabetic? You core ate that!!" .

I actually understood that! I have a good friend who lives in Willenhall. Poor, misguided soul actually supports the Wolves, talk about humiliation.😱

I'm told green apples contain less sugar than red/dessert ones, which means I don't allow myself my adored Cox's very often.

I was alwaus told that an average sized apple was about 10 CHO (supersized ones I allow for about 15 CHO).

For me that equates to a snack (ie anything up to 10 CHO that I don't need to bolus for). However it depends also on when I'm eating it - if a large apple, and on it's own, I would bolus for just under the 15 CHO. If a small apple but with other CHO then obviously you add to the mix.

all very complex but as you know, diabetes isn't a one size fits all (how easy would life be if it was though?! 🙂 )

Thats would just make it boring!! However I do go by a similar set of rules as you. 12g for a smaller one but 15 for a bigger one. We usually go with pink ladies. Its like natures natural candy

It mentions that in my profile too... Opening my self up to a lot of stick!

Hi Dory,
may I suggest you weigh an apple and then work out the carb value of it?
I think you will find a small apple is more like 10 carbs 🙂
