Any one explain egg highs?

Ok so I understand that protein will raise bg levels. So today I thought I would try an experiment, just eat protein's with very low fats, to see how it affects my levels. Now I/m not the best with foods, so if I am getting it wrong please tell me.

Breakfast 3 hard boiled eggs

Lunch grilled tuna with toasted mushrooms, garlic, raw carrot, red onion, red pepper and lettuce

Dinner Grilled chicken breast, with salad (no dressing, just salt and pepper)

So no carbs and very low fats

woke 6.30 with level at 6.6, 3 boiled eggs at 7 by 9 i'm up to 9.6 already :confused: I knew it would go up, but to me there behaving like carbs. Any ideas
 
Hi Megga, Bev who has a son with type 1 diabetes worked it out that she has to count eggs as 4 carbs each one.
I've found the same as well. :(
 
Hi Megga - this won't explain much but for the sake of brevity...

I find exactly the same as you when eating pure proteins and I have concluded that the BG rise is much more gentle than with carbs, not necessarily less overall though.

What I do to reduce the overall rise is to eat dark green leafy veg at the same time (usually spinach) - the results are remarkable. I can honestly say I've checked before and up to two hours after a meal of protein and lots of spinach and the BG level is lower after!

Problem I've got is getting hold of enough of bags of fresh spinach as my local Morrisons keeps running out. I've found that dark savoy cabbage is also very good as well, but not so nice on sandwiches. :D
 
Ah, thanks for the reply's, I was expecting it to rise, but to take much longer.

Every time you think you have this thing under control, and you understand it, something else pops up, and you back to square 1 :confused:
 
Not a bad days experiment, all in i took 11.4 units of insulin. And guess what, the biscuits came out in the evening, but i was good and just had some nuts.
Best overnight levels went to bed 6.7 and woke with 7, most stable overnight levels for over a year :D

Don't forget, your blood sugar isn't just influenced by what you eat, particularly in the mornings. Many people find they are more insulin resistant first thing in the day, or that their liver releases a lot of glucose at that time. I'd be tempted to see what happened if you ate your egg breakfast at lunch - you might get a very different result.
