Hi all, I've been glancing at the forum a for short while but not quite sure where to start. Diagnosed with gestational diabetes in early 1991 and treated with insulin until my son was born in June 1992, I became pregnant again in 1994 and found to be diabetic from the start (which apparently is unusual for gestational diabetes). Following the delivery of my 2nd son everything seemed to return to normal but a year later I practically crawled to the doctor with an HbA1C of 29 (old money) plus a few of the usual accompanying privileges. I was initially treated as a Type 2 but it quickly became clear this was not working, by which time I was in a pretty awful way and struggling with 2 very small children. To cut a long story short I was soon provided with insulin and meter which has now evolved into a Patch pump - the greatest thing since sliced Jerusalem artichoke. Complications? I've had laser treatment on both eyes and am now having Injections for which I'm very grateful as they are definitely improving. I still struggle with control but things are heading in the right direction. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm always trying to lose weight and it seems that the harder you try, the more likely you are of having hypos which I still over-correct.. Sorry if I've posted into the wrong place.
