My Nurse didn't like my BP so she spoke to the GP and the next thing I know 5mg Amlodipine. When I collected the tablets the pharmacy had put 'Do not take with Grapefruit' on the label and sure enough thats what it said in the patient leaflet. BNF didn't specifically say anything and the internet seemed to have mixed ideas. Anyway 2 months later (and 6 grapefruit in the bin) I get a repeat and this was a different manufacturer. Same notice from the pharmacy but the patient leaflet said 'Consumption of grapefruit juice or Grapefruit does not affect Amlodipine'. Asked the Pharmacist - I know nothing. Phoned the doctor - well it's a low dose so it's probably OK. And guess what - I can eat my favorite (and almost only) fruit with impunity.

I think sometimes they put warning labels on things saying 'don't!' when the reality is that you would have to drink several cartons of neat grapefruit juice to affect it.

This is an authoritative list a Canadian friend sent me advising which medications interact with grapefruit. Amlodopine is classed as very low in terms of interaction risk. I've taken it for years but don't like grapefruit anyway. Hope it does the trick for you.

The only thing left now is to learn how to say it and apparently how to spell it.

I was okay with grapefruit/Amlopidine, it was the beta blockers and grapefruit that nearly did me in! :D
