In the earlier days of been a rebellious teen and a naughty diabetic I can distinctly rememebr my Mom being fed up with me and having a half heartedly jokey go at a friend of mine who was leading me astray on the P that day... "If his leg, arm or D@$K drops off, Itll be your fault!".

Shes kind of a cool Mom, but I found statments like this a little disturbing!

Really, Mom, I wasn't aware you were American 😛

Really, Mom, I wasn't aware you were American 😛

...Ive always called her Mom!! I wasn even aware that it was an americanism??

Although I get really cunfused as she is saved in my phone as Mum, so when searching on my high tech very smart phone by typing in her name as Mom and it dosnt turn up!

I say "mom" too - it's a west midlands thing I think!

I bet you can't find a Mothers Day card with Mom on 🙂 I've always thought of it as an American term. In Wales it was always Mam, and in Nottingham it's Mum, so I guess the West Midlands is geographically inbetween the two and Mom could be considered inbetween Mam and Mum so maybe there's something in it 🙂

Nothing ambitious, only want to live to a ripe old age with very few or no complications.

What do you mean with living abroad and bad Hba1c ?
I came to England 13 years ago and my first appointment in the Diabetic - clinic made me cry for 3 days . .. just kidding !
It is not that bad !
After I was diagnosed my 2 boys were 5 and 3 years old but I had in both pregnancies gestational diabetes . luckely they are both healthy , my grandchild is now 6 years and healthy two .
So my goal is not to die blind . In the last 8 years I had loads of Laser and two eye op. And I was very close to loose my eyesight .
That is the reason that I'm now so strict with my diet . I would do everthing that this will never happen .

Just that, what with being away, my diabetes hasn't been as tightly controlled, and getting to grips with carb counting in the two countries has been difficult. I've been in Spain two months now, and I still can't bolus properly for tapas! It's a nightmare! That's my short-term goal: Be able to bolus right for tapas before I leave!

And I had the same problem when I came here . All these pasties , puddings , crisps , beer in buckets ...
The first year I put 10 lbs on.
Good luck for your short - term goal .

I have a shorter term goal than most of you: to pass my exams for the new career I've just embarked on. It counts though as it's definitely more of a challenge with diabetes, having to worry about my blood sugars going up due to stress and not dropping during an exam.. and when they're high I just want to fall asleep when I should be revising!
