Type 2
I was 32 when diagnosed a year ago as type 2 I get the impression that this is a young age to get diagnosed, it had been coming for awhile, I have 4 separate conditions that make weight management harder, pcos, hypothyroidism, sjrogrens syndrome and now type 2 and had last year rocketed in the space of 2 years to 26st, never been skinny but that was extreme. Now a year later I'm still 21st if only it could come off as quickly as it went on.
Anyways so I feel like 32 is too young to be diagnosed, I worry for my children that I'm not going to be around for long, more so now that I seem to be hypo every other day, I'm now limiting carbs drastically in a bid to lose weight... I'd like to hear other people's story's, what they've done, how long since diagnosis etc..

I was 27 when diagnosed in 2009. Was investigated after a absess under my arm and from there the nurse did all the usual tests and i was told while recooperating from the op under my arm,Since then ive had a battle of staying on the healthy side of things recently going on insulin has given me an eye opener I needed, I dont think it was inevitble id end up on it as i went 9 years previous on just metformin.Im about the same weight as you .

I was diagnosed in 2007 and was 13 stone then gradually put on weight up to 20 stone and have had difficulty in losing weight having tried everything, I put the gain down to insulin resistance and large doses of insulin.

Steff.. Love your new avatar, very pretty.😉

I was 50 not a shock , had impaired glucose tolerance for 4 years previous. Controlled with diet and exercise for first few years. Initially I lost alot of weight quickly but adopt to strict eating pattern that i could not maintain long term. 3-4 years ago being on 3 differnt medications, i adopted a more moderate pattern of eating, which i lost weight on more steady and my weight has been lower and more steady than it has been for about 20 years. I have been on only 2 medications for 9 months.

I was 63 when diagnosed. Military I was 13 stone in my 20's termed obese by my MO ( I have outlived him). Diagnosed eight weeks ago on 2x Metformin 500 a day. Sorted the diet somewhat, lost over 20lbs and I feel 35 even though I have just turned 64! Probably been pre-diabetic for more than 10 years. Becky. Look after your diet, get good exercise and enjoy your children. Diabetes has been in my family, My nan was diabetic from the late 1930's and was 87 when she died. My Dad was in his late eighties as was my mum. ALL before the potential for supporting diabetes was anything like it is now. You can do what you want to do!

I was 23 when diagnosed in August 2015 although turns out I was actually LADA which is slow onset type 1. However, the idea that most people are over 40 are type 2 is a myth. People are being diagnosed younger now.

A characteristic of PCOS is insulin resistance so I think there are a lot of women with PCOS that have a type 2 diagnosis. I'm surprised you weren't warned about this risk by a doctor. It is possible to control your type 2 with diet and exercise only however it is very difficult. Hopefully members thst do just that will be along and able to advise you on the right steps to take 🙂

I was 39 when initially diagnosed as type 2 this was then changed to a diagnosis of MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young).

I was 55 when diagnosed type 2. A family history meant no great surprise!
