I just spoke to a nurse on NHS direct. I informed her that since I was diagnosed it threw me off and I have been on 50mg of setraline since Saturday, and that I couldn't sleep and I feel in a strange limbo. The Nurse said to me that it's not the fact that I am Diabetic that caused me to be depressed. I have clinical depression, which is a seperate illness altogether. I felt I was going mad, and I was tempted to stop the medication, however she has put it in a different light. I always thought that it was the diagnosis caused me to get depressed. I am glad I called them, she put it in perspective. I thought I had beaten my depression 5 years ago.

Hi Rustee, can't add much, but I hope you are feeling better. Maybe a chat to your doctor will help?

Hi rustee,

I am glad that your conversation enlightened you. HCP's are quick to suggest that diabetes and depression go hand in hand but you can have both without them being connected.
I think a diagnosis does get people down but it is not the same as depression.
There is an article here that explains about all the types. Not all the symptoms described manifest themselves in some people.

I hope you get the help you need and feel better soon.

I agree a trip to your doctors for a chat would be a good idea...that way they can try and help you and discuss it with you.

all the best Rustee.
