Sorry the doctor was not able to acknowledge the huge achievements that you have made. Some of them can only ever see the dark side. (I have one like that who terrified me at diagnosis and was ultra keen to give me medication.) He did not really tell you anything that you did not already know. You have acknowledged that more work is needed and you know how to achieve your goal. You are a work in progress and doing a fantastic job. Don't be downhearted, getting control of this awful condition is boring relentless and takes a lot of effort and there are no days off, but you can and will get brilliant control. Why not give yourself a little treat today and do something that you really enjoy? Forget the negative doctor and concentrate on the great strides that you have already made. As they don't have diabetes it may be difficult for them to really appreciate what it is like. The people who know are on here, on this brilliant forum. I owe my achievements to them and not to the medics. Sending you a hug {}. Keep up the good work. 🙂

Thank you Northerner...did bring me down a bit...we had a discussion...told him I had seen results online...his response...'well then you know your control is still inadequate'...wanted to tell him to fudge off...had such a negative impact on me...need to pick myself up now.
For reasons of moderation please feel free to read into this next comment. Total #@$£@#

Oh, Bubbsie, you are doing so well, don't let a plonker of a GP upset you! You've made positive changes, and should feel proud of what you've achieved so far. Even my GP, who is very pleased with my progress, said at the last appointment, 'you don't need to test...' - which is just plain dumb, as it 's only testing that has got me this far! 🙄 . Come here for the support you need, Bubbsie, we're all with you.

All the best for your appointment too, Owen.
yes...you're right PM...he is a plonker...need to keep that thought in my head.

Yes...agreed...if it wasn't criminal...feel like popping down to the surgery car park...and pouring a whole kilo of sugar (pun intended) into the tank of the shiny BMW with the personalised number plates...of course if any police officers or the CPS are members on this forum...this is just a bad joke...honest.

If he'd said that to me he'd be picking up his teeth with a broken arm! 😱 😉 Really, don't let him bring you down 🙂

Oh bubbsie I am gutted your gp didn't recognize all you've achieved over the past weeks. We all certainly do on here and I hope you don't get too despondent. You know how much all your levels have improved and so long as you can stay positive the rewards will be yours. Next appt will be even better. Your go sounds s really miserable man Please keep at it you're a star xx

Thanks hg...afraid his comments are setting in now...he was so negative...when I questioned the referral to haematology for DVT...he said 'don't have to go...choice is don't go...stay on Warfarin for life'...same with the increased Metformin...I have a difficult job...deal with a heavy work load...usually made of sterner stuff...feel like the day they phoned to tell me I was diabetic...came on the forum...not expecting much...how ironic a group of people never met...or spoken to before that day offer more support and advice than my GP...well hg he can 'fudge off'...going to take the girls out...do some retail shopping...regroup...and double my efforts...and next time I see DR.V...I will tell him how his fatalist comments made me feel.

Thanks Northerner...I can give you the surgery address if you like?...a day or so and I'll be over him...however...if I spoke to my clients like that...would be out of a job.

Wouldn't mind LR...he's only about 12...thought he was far too young to be that cynical...not sure he likes being challenged...wasn't keen to increase medication...so discussed it...as encouraged by the news report on the BBC yesterday re: overprescribing...do we need it...is there an alternative...he obviously hasn't seen it...may ask the Beeb to send a copy to the surgery...will continue with my efforts...despite his comments...thank you.

Do we go to the same surgery??? You are doing amazing Bubbsie, what do they honestly expect in 3 months!? You have made great improvements in your BG levels.

wonderful caring manner he has, I'm spitting mad on your behalf.
Bubbsie you have done well , you've lost weight have BP in normal range now and managed to lower your cholesterol believe me that's not an easy thing to do. It seems very odd to me he didn't have the results of your first A1ac .
Don't let him get you down, you have worked hard and achieved blooming good results in such a short time, just think what a shock your going to give him next time.

Strong possibility we do Stitch...or perhaps I mean... YES WE CLEARLY DO...his approach could have been better...hadn't expected praise or flattery...but did expect some encouragement...maybe 'you're getting there...but more work to do' would have been more appropriate... I am going to address it with him...need to think about my approach...if it wasn't for the support I get here...could have come home and just thought what's the point...FFS...I never see people at their best when I go to work...I would never dream of delivering an assessment of their difficulties in that manner...obvious to me that would just exacerbate the situation...

I'm not sure what to do about it Ljc...such a negative consultation...will think about it over the next few days...and apparently the lab in Bedford just do not give a break down on the HbA1c at the start...thank you.

Buy yourself a nice bunch of flowers Bubbsie. They're a carb/calorie free treat and will make you smile. 🙂

There's no 'breakdown' of an HbA1c Bubbsie, they either did the test or they didn't - if they did, the number will be on your patient records. I don't know what the rules are, but I would have thought that even if they diagnose via fasting fingerpricks and/or OGTTs (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) they would still do an HbA1c test. It provides different information about your sustained levels of blood glucose and I would have thought an essential measuring stick by which to compare future tests. You can ask for a printout of your records 🙂

My Diabetic Nurse just this morning turned the computer screen so I could see what she was doing and results.

Hi MB...just went out for a good brisk walk...pounding the pavements with the girls...feel so much better...not going to let that GP distract me...got home...B.G is 6.8...getting those sixes regularly now...so &^%$ to GP...thank you...will buy flowers later...another walk.

Thanks Northerner...would like to know what HbA1c was at the start...however...decided I am not going to allow myself to be distracted by it...I know what it was at the end of September...66...so going to work on that...will put the awful consultation to the back of mind for now...and press on with my plans to bring those levels down...will address what happened this morning...after I have thought about it carefully...thank you so much for your input...it is appreciated.

I can remember my GP saying about my reduced HbA1c test, "This just a honeymoon period, it won't last. In a few months you will be on insulin and will have wrecked your health yourself. I am not at all happy". While it has continued to improve he has sourly said "I don't know what you do and I don't want to but you will become very ill at some point because it does not just go away". He regards testing as unnecessary but because I have persisted he reluctantly lets me have 50 strips every two months and warns me about becoming obsessive. Fortunately I now only see the equally ignorant DN. I suppose I will have to go back at some point, but will leave them to summon me 🙂 Glad you are feeling a bit better about it now, just put it behind you and carry on. 🙂

Hi hd...why on earth would he say that to you...what is the inference?...you're clearly not playing the game...what are you doing...adjusting your diet and exercising perhaps...I wonder if it is because this is a condition that we can have control over...providing it hasn't gone to far at the point of diagnosis...perhaps in that sense they feel somewhat redundant..in view of the fact they never have enough time to give adequate attention in the ten minute appointments they give to patients...you would think they would be happy we were managing our diabetes without too much recourse to them (where we can)...I haven't bothered to ask for testing strips on prescription...and even though I should be exempt from prescription charges (they did not advise me the pharmacist did)...I bought a pre-paid script...happy to be self-reliant as far as I possibly can...however...I need the HbA1c results...and would have appreciated a little encouragement...I am putting it behind me...and feeling better...but will bring it to his attention when appropriate. Thank you...and well done...don't have to see him for three months...thank god.
