Relationship to Diabetes

Been T2 for almost 4 months (how did that happen...) and the forum has been so helpful. Of course being curious I have loads of questions - don't ask me to speak to the GP, she is very smiley and polite but... Any how my questions are as follows - are three meals a day suggested in order to stop as much snacking as possible (which I suppose is where the biscuits etc fit in) and to give a regular eating routine? I do breakfast and an evening meal and lunch can be soup, or salad and a slice of rye bread (much nicer than it sounds). I lost weight (mixture of the diabetes and mammoth walking trips to help my dodgy knees- all this happened at the same time!).I am not too happy with the skinny beans I have become - although it is all healthy and good I just don't like it and would like to increase it a little or simply maintain the current weight - but salads etc are not really conducive to that. I have been advised that I can increase my intake of avocado (yum) and nuts (double yum), all good. I have noticed after my nut feast - brazils, I feel quite full up, is that what happens?

Hi Sharron, well it seems you are keeping to a very healthy diet which is good but are you cutting out all of your carbs? How is your food diary coming along? A few carbs we need especially if you need to gain a bit of weight, three meals a day is fine but you need to assess what you are eating to your BGL. I`m sure you are well aware to test before you eat and a couple of hours after, being a type2 its a bit different than a type1 but the principal of controlling your BGL remains the same. Avacado & nuts superb, nuts, lidl do a nice bag of mixed nuts from their Alesto range 30g a portion is a good belly filler and will or should leave you nicely sufficed for the best part of a day. I hope a little bit of my suggestions help you to respond positively to your situation and keep asking questions to enable you to gain knowledge and take better control of the big D, take care.

Nuts & avocado = excellent. Lots of good calories for weight stabilisation, a wealth of beneficial micronutrients and the high fibre+fat are indeed filling. The cornerstones of my eating these days, along with olive oil and seeds.

Hi,

Many thanks - the brazil nuts are a delight and as you say do fill me up. My food diary is a great help and I now use it when I try new foods - which does happen, I think one gets bolder. Still it is always trial and error and the ubiquitous egg!

I know double yum avocado and nuts - googled them both and all good. Many thanks for all your solid advice and on with the experiment ie me.
