Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi. I'm new to this site. I have type 1 diabetes. Been type 1 now for many years
Never been able to get my levels where they should be, so any help or advice would be helpful

Hi I'm new to this site as well. Only diagnosed this with type 2 but unable to exercise due to having fibromyalgia which affects my joints. Hard to get your head around how to change your eating habits. I'd rather follow a diet plan. Noticed a few on this site. Can anyone recommend one for weight loss particularly and keeping my blood sugars lower than the 9.1 they are at the moment!

Hello @Debee . Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear you’ve been having long term problems getting your BGs where they should be. A little more info would help us give you the best possible advise.
What insulin’s are you on.
If your on two separate insulin’s, have you done a basal test recently.

Hello @Princess Gracie , welcome to the forum.
Many people on here find that reducing carbohydrates esp the fast acting ones , potatoes esp mash, rice, pasta and bread esp white their are others, not only helps to bring your BG (blood glucose down) but helps with weight loss too .
Have a read of

It would be a good idea to start a thread of your own as you will recieve more replies relevant to you rather than to Debee

Hi Debee. Welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us a bit about what insulin you are using and how. There are a lot of different options available and I am amazed at the changes that have happened even in just the ten years since I was diagnosed.

First I would like to say thanks to all of you for your comments.
I'm waiting for my recent blood test results to find out if anything has improved lately
I find it hard cutting out carbs from my diet, even though it's seems it's going to be the only way forward for me.
Not a great fan of the kitchen so for me looking for different food ideas is a big task
As soon as I get my results I'll be looking for help so watch this space

Hi I have now recived my blood test results. As I expected not good result.
70 I have never been below this being diagnosed 6 years ago
Thank you groversy for your post. It looks like my only chance to get my numbers down is to do as you suggested cut back my carbs.
Next step for me I guess
Over the years my insulin has been changed, never making a great difference for me. This having to think about food constantly drives me crazy, what I would give to go back to the days when I could eat a whole large bar of galaxy to myself while watching a food film BLISS. Never had a weight problem in my life, so this thinking about food for me is depressing
Anyway onwards I go If at first you don't succeed.

Hello Debee. Over the years I have found out it is not an exact science. Two days are not the same. Keep as active as you can.

What advice have you been given? What kind of insulin regime are you on? Have you been (as you should have been, according to NICE) offered a structured education course (the best known being DAFNE, which is apparently also costly)?

You sure got it right their, no two days are never ever the same.I could eat the same food for days, and never have the same results
As for being active, most people who know me would say I'm over active.
I'm going to try eating very little carbs this week to see how that works out
With the amount of food I eat I'll probably be a misery all week. No way do salads fill me, I always felt lucky I was one of the lucky ones in life who could eat and not put on weight. Maybe if I needed to loose weight and was on a diet my bloods may lower.
Anyway this time next week who knows I may have finally cracked (if only)

Hi Bruce Yes I have been on a course back a few years ago, I came away feeling very confident I could crack this. How wrong was I
I inject fiasp and long acting treseber been on these two now for a while.
I must say my diabetic nurse is very helpful, but I get the feeling even she's at a loss with me. When my bloods come back high as they always do she's almost as disappointed as I am because she knows how hard I try.
She even got me a probe that fits into my arm so I can keep my eye on how my levels are going without having to prick my finger all the time.( can't remember the name of it right now ) it is a brilliant thing I must say far better than pricking your fingers all day

Almost certainly the Freestyle Libre. Which ought to have given you and your DSN enough information. Is it turning out to be reasonably accurate for you? (Some people find it reads fairly consistently significantly low, and that would explain things.)

Presumably your DSN looked at the patterns it shows? (Mine's showing I'm too high at night, which is really pretty obvious from day to day, and sometimes a bit low before lunch.)
