I hope it goes well tomorrow.
It does sound as if it could be a temporary thing.

I also have asthma, which is induced by exercise, and by Lynx sprays.
Horrid stuff

Let us know how you get on.

Are you getting this all the time Northie? If so it can't be exercise induced. Hope you get it sorted. 🙂

Could be, after breathing in all that weak Southern air for the past 22 years, although it started long before I got here - maybe I got out just in time? 😱 🙂

Weak southern air?! Pah!

Seriously though, hopefully it's just all the upheaval of your move, it was a biggy, certainly a lot of stress involved there. I've had something similar from time to time. It's actually what makes me realise I have need to slow down or have been worried about something. Hope the appointment goes well. 🙂

No, most of the time I forget about it. It has got better over the past 2-3 weeks, but still bad after running.

The appointment went well. Nurse checked my chest and it was clear, asked me lots of questions about the symptoms, when they occur etc., plus a few questions about my smoking history. She also gave me a 'peak flow' test. I've got to have another appointment next month for a spirometry test and also go to the hospital to get a chest x-ray done. She also gave me a prescription for an inhaler to see if it helps - hoping it will 🙂

I also got a few questions about my diabetes - had to laugh when she noted that my last HbA1c, from January, was 'too low' at 5.3% (34 mmol/mol). I then explained to her about how often this crops up on the forum, and how having a few mild hypos does not presage imminent coma and death 🙄 I think she accepted what I was saying! 🙂 I am getting a referral to the hospital clinic for my diabetes, which is good. They also have a walk-in blood clinic at the surgery, so I had my bloods taken for everything, including some tests I don't believe I've had before, such as thyroid function.

A good appointment 🙂

Sounds like it was a good appointment and their covering all bases.

Glad you had a good appointment.

Sounds good. Hopefully you've got a good surgery there. 🙂

Glad the appointment went well Northie.

LOL at the ‘too low A1c’ thing. Natural I suppose, given the average population they will have seen - but they clearly don’t know what your BGs are like in detail like you do 🙂

Thanks everyone 🙂 I've just got back from having my chest x-ray at the hospital 🙂 Walked there and back - I can walk 95% of the way there away from busy roads, on country lanes and across The Stray (a big park), about two and a bit miles/40 minutes 🙂 Only had to wait 15 mins for the x-ray - hoping the diabetes clinic and eye department are similarly efficient when my appointments come around! 🙂

I realised when I was in radiology that that's the first x-ray I've had done since I broke my femur in 2004! Well, apart from dental x-rays, that is.

Went for a run this morning, fine on run, coughing like a 100-a-day man when I stopped 😱 Went to pharmacy and picked up the inhaler. Decided to try it out, so took a puff then half an hour later went eyeballs-out on the exercise bike for 5 minutes - got me panting like a spaniel in a sauna, but no coughing! 😱 Result! 🙂

You can’t diagnose COPD from a Peak Flow reading. Or, I indeed, an X-ray, if the condition isn’t well established. You need a FEV test (forced expiratory volume).

Mind you, Northie, I don’t think you’ve got COPD, so chasing that particular diagnosis is futile.

I should add, that if the inhaler prevents symptoms when exercising, then exercise induced asthma looks like a good working diagnosis.

Glad to hear the inhaler worked, Northerner, and you’ve had a full MOT.😛

(I’m moving up North, LOL. I’ve been waiting since Feb for my first UK endo appointment...)

Is that the same as a spirometry test? I'm having that done next month - apparently it's a 30-40 minute appointment and that was the earliest they could get one that long.

Which surgery are you going to Alan? Church Avenue by any chance? That's where I go. Glad you are getting everything sorted here. Hopefully we can meet up before too long.

I'll send you a Private Message Kathy 🙂

Yes. Although it seems a bit unnecessary, it will reassure you that your lungs are normal, if a little sensitive. We know that’s true, because a 5k run was just a warm up a year ago, and you haven’t been down a coal mine and smoking 40 a day since.
