Is it really that dangerous?

I love being barefoot, so somewhere I know is safe, and has been fully checked like my garden or at a friends house I will risk it.

On holiday in the heat, I hate hot feet so I am naughty and go barefoot!

Last year on holiday I burnt my feet walking to the pool bar from the sunbed! Very stupid of me and it really hurt. Spent a lot of time with cream on my feets!

Like many on here I love to go barefoot. I still do at home - and when walking on a sandy beach in Spain a couple of weeks ago I was barefoot then too as we were right next to the sea!

@kentish maid have you thought about Birkenstocks? They do a variety of different styles, don't flip and flop if you do choose that style, and I've always found them to be like walking on a cloud 🙂

Lastly, a joke I love - I apologise in advance.

A woman with two left feet walks into a shop and asks...

..."have you got any flip-flips?"

:D

Love the joke :D

Had a quick look online at Birkenstocks, put me a bit in mind of the Scholl sandals I use to wear many years ago. Will keep my eyes open for them, thank you

Yes it is as the slightest small cut on the feet could turn into a nasty infection if gone unnoticed and/or untreated ~ thus unpleasant & unwanted complications could set in which could ultimately lead to amputations. So folks please dont walk in your bare feet.

l love walking around with bare feet, I hate having to wear something on my feet now in the garden or when on holiday by the pool. But I suppose needs must. I do admit I just can't wear slippers in doors though, I still walk around bare footed.

I love my Birkenstocks, in fact I have then on today, I personally don’t like going barefoot and it’s nothing to do with being diabetic. My feet are classed as being at low risk so I will walk on the beach barefoot at times. But if I thought there was any risk I definitely wouldn’t. But nothing will stop me wearing my Birkenstocks! Try Amazon for them, quite a good price. There are about £50 in the shops. Worth every penny.

What are 'beach shoes' Mark?
We had to buy beach shoes on holiday in Santorini as the “ beach” is made of volcanic rock and is painful on your feet as well as being hot. Great for that and going into the sea but I found them very sweaty!😱

They tend to be lightweight neoprene shoes, with a rubber sole, allowing more comfortable walking on the pebbles or whatever, but being neoprene dry in no time at all after being in water.

Very good if the beach in question has Weaver Fish

I trod on one in Cornwall a few years back. Then it was me and a bunch of other Dads in the pub beer garden exchanging sheepish glances with our feet in scalding water as our (beach shod) kids happily played on 🙄:D

Yes, they do get a bit sweaty.

I bought slip on things with Velcro fastener for holiday last year as poolside and beach were scorching. A few times got smart and hopping up and down

Unless you've got poor circulation or can't even see your feet 🙄 then I can't see a problem wandering on the beach and into the sea barefoot. When I went to see the nurse once to have my foot check she said who cuts your toenails? I thought what!?!?! Who did she think cut them? Yeah I just ring a bell and call one of my servants to do it. 🙄 Of course told her I cut 'em myself.

I’m currently wearing my sheepskin lined Ugg slippers. Very comfy. I never go barefoot, but only because I can’t walk very well without something on my feet. Not that I can walk very well at all (I said that in case any DWP spies read this).

And I’ll cut my own toenails as long as I can reach them, but it’s hard work. I wouldn’t let the servants near ‘em.😎

Slippers for me, chiefly because my feet get cold in this house, and also means I don't walk barefoot over any of the slug trails left overnight from the nocturnal gastropod excursions under the skirting and across the (uncarpeted) floor 😱 🙂 Maybe I can go barefoot in my new house! 🙂

Yuck 😱
As a diabetic, you have to be especially careful of slugs... 😱

Hyper Slugs

It’s a little known fact that diabetics need to keep their distance from slugs. I read recently on the forum about a poor lady who chanced upon a slug that had crawled onto her cooker during the night and so distressed her that her blood sugar levels shot up and stayed high for several hours afterwards. I can only speculate that there is some form of chemical message that is given off by the noxious slime they leave in their wake, stimulating stress hormones in humans, and raising blood sugar levels.

Caution should therefore be observed when these creatures are in the vicinity, and the age-old defences of salt and beer should be administered immediately on sight, before any harm is done…

It may befall you, late at night, to wander through the house,
But be beware of things that lurk, like spider, slug or mouse!
What’s that you say? A mouse is known to scurry through the gloom,
And spiders too may weave their webs in corners of the room…
But slugs? You speak in jest my friend! What fears do they inspire?
They’ll hardly leap from out the murk, or breathe on you with fire!

But slugs have powers little known – the slime that they exude
Can raise the sugars in the blood, playing havoc with your mood!
Emitting powerful pheromones, they signal to your brain
To flood your blood with cortisol, until the slug is slain!
So arm yourself with salt and beer, to keep the beasts at bay!
And slay the ghastly gastropods – despatch them on their way! 😱 :D

I'd hate them if they're sweaty - Yuk. Thought hey might be when you said 'neoprene' - they're like windsurfing shoes, which is fine as the tootsies are normally awash with sea/lake water. But - not with dry feet.

Can't say I like the Birkenstocks - bit clumpy for me.
