Yes, we used to buy it and have with fish. It's ok but not overly exciting. We would either steam it with other veg, or heat it gently with a knob of butter. I don't have any other suggestions, I'm afraid.

PS lovely pic, Bubbsie :D

I've collected it on a few days kayaking on East Anglian coasts, so just fried in camping pan.
When I've bought it at reduced price in supermarket, I've taken it home to steam and eat with a bit of melted butter - nice texture, salty taste, goes well with butter.

Thanks PM...harry is an attention hound...think K has a crush on him...wanted to send it in a message...but...since I'm technologically incompetent...couldn't do it...was sure K wouldn't mind a little topic drift...since it wasn't me...it was Harry.

Thanks guys for the help 🙂 noticed Tesco have it for around £1:20 a pack I think it was lol, not many carbs supposedly and saw a few recipes for omelettes using it so was just wondering if that would be a good option, and @Bubbsie he looks absolutely adorable!!! :D and I don't mind a drift off topic on any of the threads as long as people are having a bit of good banter 🙂 xx

K...that's the reality of Harry...he's so sweet...has a very soft nature...but...he is such a strong dog...does everything to excess...weighs a ton...sometimes when I am walking him...if he wants to go in the other direction...difficult to stop him...I swear my arms are at least six inches longer than before I had him...but...when he puts his head on my lap...looks at me with those big green eyes...ahhh...oops...have to go he's eating the cats food again😡.

I tried it because it looked interesting and different. I didn't enjoy it at all, found it very fibrous.

From butchers buy a thick slice of boiled ham.
plate at home with bread and butter
Get a small saucepan of water on the summer.
In a different pan make White sauce
Melt tspn butter in a pan, add 1 lvl TSP flour stir through cook til beige
Off the gas, add about an egg cup vol of milk. stir through to smoothness, return to heat. add more milk smoothing as you go until white sauce consistency achieved. Remove from heat. Add a knob of butter. Leave
Drop an egg in simmering water for 3 mins
Drop samphire in for last 2 mins
Lift out
Leave to evaporate steam a minute
Serve white sauce then samphire then egg on ham

Glass of white wine helps.

Samphire is best steamed and served with a knob of butter. I think it's delicious, but not everyone's cup of tea. Some folk here pick it from the marshes where I live. When I worked in a pub the locals used to give us bags of it freshly picked. Not sure how well it travels though, unless it's picked near you. No harm in trying it and it's packed with vitamins (not sure which though 🙄)
It's popular to eat with fish (I may be wrong but I think it's from the seaweed family)

I agree. Think it’s lovely. I’ve only ever tried it with fish but I’m sure it’d work with other things

You really don't want me to start on marine plant taxonomy.... But I like knowing about things I eat, particularly things I forage.
