I saw the GP again yesterday because he has been closely monitoring me during the last few days because of my increased heart rate (SVT). Apart from a brief period of feeling ok on Sunday afternoon I have been feeling really ill since Thursday. When I spoke to the GP yesterday he said that the muzzy head, dizziness, fatigue etc - not feeling safe to leave the house on my own apart from medical appointments - because of the sensations - are because of the increased dose of Verapamil which I've been given to keep my heart rate under control. Yesterday I had palpitations several times and could only cook a little of dinner because of shortness of breath and tight chest. The GP has said to reduce to slightly reduce the Verapamil from Wednesday morning and hopefully that will sort out the side effects. I asked about changing to beta blockers but he said no because of Type 1 diabetes. But if the side effects don't improve or if my heart rate goes above 100 I'm to be referred to a cardiologist - although apart from surgery (which I was offered three years ago but don't want because I literally can't cope with surgeries under local anaesthetic) the options are limited. On the plus side my blood pressure is excellent (110/70) but I'm completely fed up with feeling so rough. My only trips out this week will be by taxi to the podiatrist and by taxi to a glaucoma appointment. Apologies for the post being so long.

Amanda...sorry to hear about the difficulties with the medication...unable to offer any advice on the side effects...no experience...hopefully others here will be able to offer you some reassurance...hoping the GPs advice to lower the dose helps ease the palpitations/chest pain and other symptoms...keep us updated.

Aw, AJ. So sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. :( (((((BIG HUGS)))))

Hope you respond to the change in dose of meds quickly Amanda. Take it easy

I do hope you feel better soon, it sounds so tough and not surprised you feel fed up. (((((BIG HUGS)))))
Please do let us know how you are doing.

Hope the changes help a little. Sending hugs xx

Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time, all the best and I hope things improve for you soon x

Your post isn't very long at all. Sorry you're going through this, hope they can get you sorted asap. (((hugs)))

Thank you everyone. Yesterday wasn't a good day, grieving for mum is also really hitting me as well. Decided yesterday that I will go back to university and put everything in place for this, but not so sure today that my health is up to it.
Have reduced heart medication - heart rate has crept up but still within normal levels but at the higher end so need to monitor it over the next few days. Feel physically and mentally exhausted but trying to fight through. Scary glaucoma appointment on Friday.

Sending love and (((hugs))). Hope you can get things sorted out Amanda. xx

ooh Amanda...what can I say about grieving?...apart from it 'hits' us when we least expect it...does not follow any pattern...has no structure....is individual for all of us...I lost my mother when I was quite young...I can honestly say there isn't a day that goes by where I haven't thought of her...or missed her...we just have to get through it the best way we can...you will have days that are better /worse than others...however you feel...you just have to go with that...ironically like you I went off to continue my studies after my mothers death...it was the best thing I could have done...with the additional health problems that may present you with difficulties....but...you can put things in place...ready to start if your health & emotional well being permit it...if not...given your circumstances...I'm sure the university would be understanding...defer your start...good luck with your appointment on Friday...fingers crossed it goes well...such a difficult time...as for grieving...its a natural reaction...painful...inexplicable at times...confusing...maddening...you have to take as much time as you need to grieve...take care of yourself...Barbara

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell, Amanda. I hope your dr sorts out your tablet dose quickly and you soon start to feel better. Try and rest.

Thank you everyone. I've just been admitted to hospital! I can't sleep and want to go home but have to see a cardiologist in the morning! I'm keeping everything crossed that it's just all stress related although I don't feel particularly stressed.

Missed your post Amanda. Sorry you are in hospital. Hope you get home today, feeling better. I echo what Barbara said about loss of mum. I lost mine at my age of 50 and still think of her every day, but without the overwhelming sense of loss, more like I could have asked mum that...I too went on to uni late in life and the challenge was worth it. Good luck in your chosen path Amanda. Take care carol

Very difficult time for you Amanda...I'm sure the hospital are being extra cautious...wouldn't be surprised if stress has a lot to do with it...I can understand that urge to get home...one they are satisfied they have things under control...you will get home...hope very much that is today...once they can get you stabilised.

Hope you get sorted and home soon.

I hope the cardiologist comes up with a good treatment plan this morning and that you are home and getting some sleep asap. Everything crossed for you.
