I had my diabetes review today and was really shocked to find my HbA1c has climbed again to 7.7 (I think equates to 59). This is the highest I have ever had and am really unhappy with it. :(
I realise the last 12 months have been stressful and that has played a part, but I really feel that I need to do something to regain control. Admittedly I have not recorded any blood readings since March, although am still testing regularly, and have not been doing anything about highs, just riding them out. No ketone checking either.

My nurse feels it is time I seriously considered a pump and is happy to put me in touch with the right people but I don't feel that now is a good time, going through everything with my little one at the moment. Maybe once we know more on that score and the stress settles down a bit it would be worth consideration.

Thoughts anyone? Would you consider a pump now if you were me? I'm still unsure about wearing one tbh, daft I know.

Sorry I can't help with the pump. I just wanted to say it's perfectly understandable that you're Hb1ac has gone up , mine would be up in the stratosphere with all the worry over your little one and to give you a huge one of these

Thank you so much Ljc.

Hiya Newbs.🙂 I can't advise you on the pump, but just wanted to repeat what LJC said - things have been so stressful for you, it's not surprising your A1c has gone up. If the medics think your BGs will improve with a pump, why not consider it at least? How about reading Pumping Insulin by Walsh and Roberts to give yourself an idea of what pumping involves and decide if it's for you? Good luck.

I'm a pen user, and occasionally, my HbA1c has been higher than ideal, when "life gets in the way" as a lovely retinopathy screener put it ag my first appointment in a new system after having to move house, city, job, region etc when partner took up with a work colleague. I was so relieved that poor control for 6 months out of previous 8 months.
Back on track, more because of life improving, than any support from diabetes team, as I'd sorted myself out before appointment at new diabetes clinic about 2 months after registering with new GP.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'm not surprised either newbs - hell you have had a lot of stress. But dunno how your nurse thinks starting on a pump would cure that, I really don't know!

I found it quite stressful indeed to begin with till I got the thing adjusted to really suit me - and well - that's hard work cos all the things where you know automatically what you should do are yes the same, but also they are just all different LOL Plus of course all the things about using a pump, that are completely new !! So MORE stress - just when you can see some light at the end of that tunnel - when really, you could do far better having a bit less.

You know what to do, you've had the electric shock to get you started actually doing them - if you have trouble, well, you can have a re-think. That's exactly what I did - just told my DSN I couldn't cope with anything much different right now and I'd rather concentrate on staying on jabs and pinning that down as well as possible right now, thanks. So - we didn't discuss it for a year or two - and funnily enough it was my consultant who raised it again, as there were still things I couldn't get completely right and evidently never would on jabs - on the very day I intended to say the same to my DSN when I'd finished in with the Dr, for him to do his review! LOL

Got mine when I was absolutely sure I was ready for it - but it was still as I said hard work for me - which Pumper_Sue will confirm LOL

Only do what you feel you can cope with doing. When you feel you can cope with more - reconsider it if you need to.

Thanks everyone. Jenny - your reply is great, makes so much sense and I agree with you entirely. Our appointment with Zoe's haematologist on Wednesday added even more stress (I will update in Off the Subject at some point) so, for now at least, I really don't think I could even consider a pump. My mind is simply not on it. I have, as you say, been given the jolt I need to sort myself though and I plan to do my best to regain control. I will also take up Bloden's suggestion of reading Pumping Insulin. I do think I will have to think seriously about a pump not too far down the line, just not right now.

I don't know anything about pumps, Newbs, just wanted to add some more hugs for you - sounds like you need them
